What to expect as the Powertrain Building Equipment Asset Controller

The Business and Projects Team sit within Powertrain Test Operations team, the department is responsible for the provision and operation of Test Facilities and equipment required to support the build, development and sign off of the Vehicle Powertrain Components. The facilities from which they operate are based at both the Gaydon and Whitley sites and currently include a significant number of Engine Test Cells, Vehicle Emission Test Chambers, Hybrid Test, Transmission Test and Automated Mileage Accumulation Facilities, as well as Engine Build and Vehicle Workshops.

To ensure the facilities will meet future legislative, product and test requirements, regular upgrade and replacement of test facilities is required. These upgrades range from minor projects and refurbishment to complete facilities. The Building and Asset Controller will support the delivery of the development of Powertrain Test Operations facilities.

The role is a combination of management, financial, economic, engineering, and other practices applied to physical assets with the objective of providing the required level of service in the most cost-effective manner. It includes the management of the entire lifecycle-including design, construction, commissioning, operating, maintaining, repairing, modifying, replacing and decommissioning/disposal-of physical and infrastructure assets.

What you'll need as the Powertrain Building Equipment Asset Controller

You'll have an Engineering qualification ideally at degree level along with a good general understanding in mechanical engineering and design including basic design analysis and material selection. You'll have proven ability to engender asset management practices to address both operational demand and stakeholder expectations with a working knowledge of ISO 55000 and a proven track record of supporting the improvement and renewal of infrastructure and technical facilities.

In addition, you'll have experience in specification writing in a facility or mechanical services environment, commercial and engineering activities including budget accountability. You'll be proficient in workshop and facility H&S requirements with an understanding of Environmental practices and knowledge of CDM regulations. Experience with BIM (Building Information Management) and an understanding of co-ordinated building and Asset Management is essential.
