A family-owned business since 1968, Shires Equestrian specialise in apparel and equipment especially suited for the discerning equestrian of all levels.

Job Purpose

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced marketing specialist to join the Marketing Department of this leading equestrian supplier based in Leominster, Herefordshire. The role will mostly focus on a key brand, involving responsibility for development and implementation of the brand's communication and marketing strategy, engaging B2C across print, web and social media. The role will also involve working on other projects where necessary.

Key responsibilities:

  1. reporting to the Marketing Manager, working closely with key partners to develop cohesive communications strategies
  2. to drive, refine and execute communication and engagement activities in line with these strategies
  3. to write, proof-read and edit communications materials, ensuring all communications are consistent in brand and message
  4. ensure maximum exposure of product
  5. to develop and manage the content of the brand's website: writing, editing and updating copy, checking on going accuracy and ensuring consistency in messages and tone
  6. undertaking design projects such as invitations, exhibition panels and providing oversight when these projects are commissioned externally
  7. to plan, implement and develop communications both B2B and B2C using email newsletters, email and social media
  8. responsibility for the brand's social media accounts including Facebook, Twitter and developing any new channels as necessary
  9. responsibility for the brand's blog site, planning and producing/overseeing monthly posts
  10. to plan and execute/oversee production of on-page adverts
  11. act as a brand ambassador for the organisation both internally and B2B/B2C
  12. organisation of events and group meetings
  13. to undertake any other duties commensurate with the objectives of the post
  14. to undertake and attend professional development events as required

Key Skills & Experience

  • proven experience in developing, implementing and evaluating media campaigns
  • experience of marketing and communications, ideally but not necessarily in the equestrian sector
  • confident in making strategy, style and content decisions and providing reasons for doing so to colleagues and stake-holders
  • highly organised and able to work with senior colleagues and stakeholders to produce materials to deadline
  • ability to source reliable suppliers and negotiate rates
  • ability to manage budgets and timesheets
  • excellent IT skills
  • experience of Magento website platform

Desirable skills (some but not all necessary)

  • strong copywriting, editing and proofreading skills, including the ability to produce high-quality, clear and interesting written materials
  • design experience using Photoshop, Indesign/Quark and Illustrator
  • ability to manage projects and drive them forward

Education and/or experience

  • ideally 2 or more years experience in a relevant role
  • an excellent working knowledge of MS Office
  • experience in Adobe Creative Suite, writing for the web and tracking analytics
  • experience of the equestrian industry / horse riding
