Main purpose of Job:

To load/unload vehicles, trailers and containers and tranship freight as required or as directed by warehouse supervisor or traffic office, in accordance with written manifests, loading or pick lists and verbal instructions.

Locating stock safely and securely within a warehouse environment and labelling and identifying freight accurately.

Process paperwork relating to freight and storage

To deal with complaints relating to the Warehouse or loading/unloading of goods.

To allocate work effectively and fairly to Warehouse Operatives/Forklift Truck Drivers providing instruction, guidance and support where required.

To encourage, support and train Warehouse Operatives/Fork Lift Truck Drivers

To supervise Warehouse Operatives/Forklift Truck Drivers undertaking work, monitor performance reporting performance issue and informing the Warehouse Supervisors/Directors where performance is unsatisfactory.

You are responsible for ensuring that employees work in accordance with the Company Health & Safety Policy and regulations, which includes assisting with health and safety recording, reporting, checks and audits.

To drive or shunt vehicles safely from the Lorry Park to Warehouse and vice versa.

To drive and operate Fork Lift Truck vehicles safely according to relevant FLT licence held.

Take the responsibility of and cover for Supervisor when they are not in attendance.

General security of the warehouse, as key holders ensure the warehouse is locked end of late shift and secured and ensure the warehouse is unlocked promptly at the start of the morning shift. Prevent any access of unauthorised personnel into the warehouse.

Duties and Responsibilities:

You are expected to undertake as well as supervise the safe loading, unloading of vehicles trailers and containers.

Ensuring that any freight unloaded into the warehouse can be easily identified at a later date. To ensure any freight that is not identifiable or that is unexpected (e.g no labels or job number) is placed in quarantine with sufficient information to record where it was collected from, by which vehicle and the date it arrived. Any quarantined freight must be reported to the traffic office at the point of quarantine.

Assist with daily held over reports

You are required to promptly report freight that has not been securely packaged and is unsafe to travel and report any damaged freight that arrives or that is damaged within the warehouse and ensure the relevant incident/near miss forms etc. are completed.

You are required to report freight that has been mis-declared in terms of size or weight (e.g. heavier or taller/longer than declared) which will affect planned loads on the vehicles.

Team leaders must ensure that they themselves or other warehouse operatives secure doors and curtains correctly on vehicles being unloaded/loaded and that Company policy is adhered to at all times e.g. of wearing hard hats or bump caps

Team leaders must make sure that vehicles are loaded within weight limits, and goods are secured onto vehicles using internal and individual straps if the driver is not present when the vehicle is loaded.

You are expected to liaise with drivers’ regarding the loading of vehicles and work as a team to ensure maximum efficiency & safety is achieved within the warehouse operation and in the delivery of freight.

Any complaints passed to you are expected to be resolved taking instruction from the Warehouse Supervisors & Directors as appropriate.

Ensure all operatives carry out pre-use checks on the equipment they will be using (e.g. FLTs) and any defects are reported to the Warehouse Supervisor or Workshop Manager and quarantine/rectification arrangements are put in place.

Team leaders must ensure that regular daily/weekly/monthly tasks are carried out and results are recorded, where required.

You must ensure all work conducted in the warehouse is done with due regard to Health & Safety regulations/Company site rules and relevant risk assessments. Ensure drivers, visitors and contractors adhere to the health and safety and PPE rules within the warehouse.

You must ensure that daily arrival and departure times of you and your staff are recorded accurately. Should you find a member of staff deliberately falsifying records this must be reported to the Warehouse Supervisor / Directors immediately.
