Learning and Development Coordinator

Location - Laburnum House, Laburnum Road, Bournville, Birmingham, B30 2BD

Salary - £19,000 - £21,000 per annum

Hours - 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday 9am - 5:30pm

About the Role

We are currently recruiting for a Learning and Development Coordinator reporting to the Learning Services Director within the Learning structure of the HR Shared Service (People Services).

You will provide effective and efficient Learning coordination and a first line advice, focusing on excellent customer service and learning content delivery.

This role will be responsible for managing all of the end to end processes of Learning coordination, from scheduling items and curricula to recording learning history, to helping and advising employees in the use of the Learning Management System plus also ensuring the agreed governance and processes are followed at all times.

The successful applicant will also be responsible for ensuring the right information and reports are available to support the wider Learning Team in making effective decisions on learning and development activities within Serco whilst proactively coordinating the communications to the business regarding learning opportunities and any mandated training requirements.

Reason for the role

This role has been established as part of the Learning function within the UK HR Shared Service team. It will be an integral part of the team responsible for the management of learning on the Serco Learning Management System (LMS) plus offering learning advice and guidance to the wider business.

With a focus on effective coordination and the day-to-day management of the system, and training courses the successful applicant will need to be computer literate, analytical and a good team player.

The Learning team in the Shared Service are responsible for the consolidation of learning across Serco and where applicable, manage the end to end learning process through the LMS.

With a potential of circa 25k learners, this will be a busy, challenging and rewarding role, with some travel to Serco’s UK contracts.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create, maintain and assign learning activities on the learning management system

Manage in-house course bookings and delegate queries
Manage, test and maintain online learning courses
Prepare and create reports based on learning activity
Receive and respond to varied questions about learning activities and availability of courses
Manage communications regarding learning opportunities and mandated learning requirements
Build relationships with business customers to understand learning needs
Work closely with internal trainers to deliver relevant learning
Liaise with third party learning providers to schedule bookings where appropriate
Produce routine documents using Microsoft Office
Provide support to our offshore administration team around learning
Using other in-house systems, including MyHR, Our World and Collaboration Rooms
Maintain relevant work instructions for learning related activities


  • GCSE Grades A to C in Maths and English (or acceptable equivalent).

Essential Skills

  • IT literate: MS Office Suite, with particular knowledge of Word, PowerPoint & Excel

Excellent writing skills
Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail
Excellent interpersonal skills
Learning administration experience would be advantageous
Experience of using SAP or similar systems
Must be self-motivated with ability to work as part of a team or individually
Articulate and confident
Able to manage multiple customers and priorities
Experience of working with an LMS, particularly SuccessFactors (Desirable)

Must be flexible with some potential travel within the UK and able to easily commute within the Birmingham area.
