Job Role: Part Time Learning Support Assistant
Location: Wolverhampton
Hours: 25 hours per week (term time only)
Salary: £18.360 pro-rata
Introduction
Full time education is central to the programme for all learners: it focuses both upon academic progress, making up any lost ground and on building self-awareness, self-esteem, resilience, confidence and independence.
Each learner will be engaged in a personalised learning programme that is appropriate to their age and ability. Baseline assessment is used to formulate learning goals and a differentiated curriculum targeted to the needs of the individual. Literacy and numeracy are at the core of the curriculum and for older learners there are opportunities to follow a range of vocational experiences and to receive careers guidance.
Reports to:- Registered Manager
Purpose of the Job:-
  • To be based within MSW and support education packages for young people in our care
  • To liaise with social workers, education coordinators, virtual heads and schools to support development of education packages for young people
  • To support writing education plans and timetables for young people
  • To attend and arrange pep meetings and parents evenings
  • To work under the guidance of the lead teacher raj manjd and homes manager
  • To assist in planning and supporting of lessons in and outside the home.
  • To work directly with pupils who require intervention in particular subjects, following planned programmes.
  • To help motivate and encourage students to achieve
  • To work with staff to create a calm and welcoming atmosphere in the School.
  • To maintain a supportive, attractive and clean learning environment at the school, including display.

Areas of Responsibility:-
  • To provide individual support to young people with their educational needs
Key Tasks:-
  • To support students’ general welfare.
  • To help make appropriate resources to support individual students.
  • To assist in record keeping of the needs and progress of students
  • To work under the direction of subject teachers to improve literacy and Numeracy skills.
  • To work on a one-to-one basis or with a very small group of students on teacher directed activities outside the classroom.
  • Participate in both curricular and extra-curricular activities as required within reasonable limits.
  • To assist in the teaching of a small group of young people.
  • Participate in the assessment of children by formal and informal means.
  • To mark, when requested, work done by children in a constructive way within guidelines on marking.
  • To record marks given and to keep a record of attainment, progress and observations, and to contribute where requested, to reports on children taught.
  • Display children’s work so that they feel it is valued and to create an exciting and dynamic learning experience.
  • To participate in schemes and themes in relation to displays around the Home and in outside displays put on by the Home
  • Work with colleagues and other professionals, as necessary, in securing a range of qualifications and awards for young people. Similarly to help and encourage children wishing to take part in competitions and events—whether educationally based or not.
  • To take a proactive role in managing and improving the behaviour of young people at the Home.
  • To consider the health and safety of students and staff at all times. To carry out risk assessments as appropriate for activities. To be mindful of children’s welfare at all times. To record and report all matters considered dangerous, inappropriate or likely to cause children physical or mental harm.
  • To participate in staff meetings and to work with colleagues in order to promote the best interests of the children.
  • To be mindful of resources, making others aware when supplies are getting low or give notice if additional new resources are wanted.
  • The dispensing and administration of medication as required.
  • To participate in appraisal.
  • To review with your line manager your methods of working and to undertake professional development as deemed appropriate.
  • To attend mandatory training.
  • To carry out other such duties as shall be considered reasonable in the circumstances.
