About HMP StockenHMP Stocken was built in 1985 and is a Category C prison housing adult male prisoners. In January 2003, an inspection report from Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Prisons praised Stocken Prison, stating that it was an example for other jails to follow. Inspectors found "mutually respectful relationships between staff and prisoners" which created a "decent, safe and ordered environment." The prison also earned praise for its pre-release programme, which included housing advice and personal appointments for inmates.The Prison's regime includes the following activities: College (full/part-time), workshops, vocational training courses including, recycling, catering, bicycle maintenance, painting and bricklaying. There are gymnasium facilities with courses leading to qualifications. They aim to provide relevant and recognised qualifications to assist their prisoners to achieve employment on release.The Prison also offers a number of accredited offending behaviour courses such as TSP and Healthy Relationships Programme alongside other psychological services. They also offer, drug treatment programmes and drug courses. Other special features are Listener Scheme, Insiders Scheme, a drug free wing, Resettlement Unit, Offender Management and Interventions Unit providing effective case management of prisoners to reduce reoffending, pro-active prisoner forum and Race Equality & Diversity Prisoner Representatives.Working within Offender Education provides real opportunities to transform lives, as it gives offenders the knowledge, self-esteem and confidence to thrive in the world of work.
