Are you positive and creative? Could you support people with learning disabilities, helping them live life on their own terms?

MacIntyre is a leading national charity supporting people with learning disabilities. Our core belief is that everyone has potential, something to offer and a valuable contribution to make to their community.

We have vacancies supporting adults for Part-time [x2] and Relief (Bank) Support Workers in our Supported Living service in Shrewsbury. Let us know which position and hours you can work on your application.

About the role

In this service MacIntyre supports three men aged from mid 40's to 50's. Two of which are wheelchair users and need support to be hoisted; One is also deaf so he uses a mixture of signing. These men just love to have fun, banter and a laugh in general. They need fun loving, outgoing staff with a bubbly personality, willing to go anywhere, be able to drive, as well as being good at listening and watching body language to see if you are doing things right.

You will play a key part in assisting the guys we support to live as independently as possible. You will join in with their favourite pastimes and hobbies, helping them be active members of their local community. Activities might include seeing families, watching nature programmes, playing and listening to music, using a tablet, cycling, swimming, visiting day centres, crafts, singing and dancing, shopping and helping around the house. There'll always be lots of banter involved and you'll be having lots of fun in the process!

Because of the complexity of their learning disabilities, they require help with intimate personal care including washing.

The work can be demanding and doesn't suit everyone, but if it's right for you, you'll find it incredibly rewarding and valuable. We will provide you with full training and with day-to-day help and advice from your Head of Service.

You'll take your turn working shifts on a rota, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, bank holidays and 1 sleep-in per shift.

What we need from you

Experience is not necessary, as we provide a full induction and free training programme, so this role is suitable for a trainee. People join us from many different backgrounds, it's more important to us that you have a positive approach and are willing to learn.

It is essential for these positions that you hold a full manual driving licence which allows you to drive in the UK, as you will be required to drive service vehicles. For insurance purposes you must have held your UK driving licence for 12 months or more.

Pay and Rewards

MacIntyre offers a full induction and ongoing training, including the opportunity to gain nationally accredited vocational qualifications. We also offer a range of benefits which include:

Generous annual leave allowance of 33 days including statutory public holidays, rising with service to a maximum of 38 days after five years.

Salaries are dependent on successful completion of a 6 month probation period. Part time positions are paid pro rata, and we pay £35 per sleep-in. Relief rate is £7.55 per hour. Part time rate starts at £7.60 per hour rising to £7.70 per hour after probation period.

The closing date for this position is: Sunday 22 October 2017

Interviews / Service Visit will take place on: 29 October 2017
