The Department of Chemistry at the University of Warwick are looking for an Assistant Technician to work within their Electrical and Electronics Workshop. The position is for six months in the first instance with a possibility to be extended.

You will be enthusiastic, reliable and have experience in assembling circuit boards and portable appliance testing. You are a good team player and enjoy working in a research environment with people at different levels, from postgraduate students to senior academics, and dealing with a vast range of varied electrical equipment.

Duties and responsibilities

Test new equipment arriving in department for safety (PAT)
• Repair equipment under guidance of Chief Technician
• Assemble circuit boards from schematics
• Make leads as required
• Help sort and organise workshop
• Point of contact when Chief Technician not available
• Other duties depending on ability

Skills and experience

• Worked with safe practices
• Knowledge of electrical and electronic components
• Experience in use of basic electronics tools i.e. soldering iron, cutters, pliers, drivers and tweezers
• Basic use of oscilloscopes, meters, power supplies, etc.
• Ability to use a PC and general software
• Approachable, friendly and honest
• A keen interest in electronics and how things work; willing to learn
• Prepared to take on any task within abilities

• Portable appliance testing (PAT) experience
• Proteus or other PCB layout software
• Microsoft office (Word, Excel)
• Microchip PIC
• Solidworks
• Labview
• Corel draw
