We are currently seeking to recruit an outgoing, highly motivated and experienced individual, who is AAT qualified, to join the MAGIC team in the role of Assistant Accountant.

This role is a full time position, located within our Head Office in Knowle, Solihull.

Job Description

This role is varied and all-encompassing in terms of work, making it central to the success of MAGIC. You will work closely with fellow accountants both senior and trainees within the team, to deliver a professional and stress free service to a national client base.

This is a client facing role that involves day-to-day account management and on-going business support to your own portfolio of clients; the candidate will therefore possess excellent communication skills and have previous experience of working within an accountancy practice in a similar role.

This is an autonomous role; you will report to the senior Accounts Manager but largely be left to deal with your own time management.

You will be responsible for processing client day-to-day bookkeeping records, preparing monthly management reports and vat returns, as well as providing on-going business advice and support to customers.

With a strong emphasis on providing timely and proactive accountancy services in a friendly and approachable manner, as Assistant Accountant you will be required to carry out the following tasks with confidence and professionalism;

Key Responsibilities

Managing a portfolio of owner managed businessesLiaising with and answering client queries by phone, email and face to faceOn-boarding new clients and introducing them to the cloud softwareProcessing client sales and purchase invoices, receipts and payments onlineProcessing Bank and other control account reconciliationsAdhering to filing deadlines – which will include chasing clients for missing informationProcessing & filing VAT ReturnsPreparation and posting of JournalsPreparing and production of statutory accounts up to trial balanceMaintaining client fixed asset register and provision schedulesPreparation and analysis of Monthly Management and P&L analysis reports for clientsAdvise clients on basic tax efficiency measuresDevelop long lasting and personable client relationshipsCommunicating with HMRC on behalf of clientsRegistering client companies for VATCreate and maintain client files on internal databasesInternal reporting preparation to support senior accountantsAnswer and field general callsSkills and experience

Qualified AAT or equivalentCome from a practice background with a minimum of 2 years experience within a similar accounting role (we will not consider applications from candidates with only industry experience)Experience using online accounting packages such as Kashflow, Xero and quickbooksPossess excellent communication skills (both oral & written), to include an excellent telephone mannerPossess strong IT skills, including MS Office applicationsPersonal Attributes
