Seeking a patient and empathetic Male Teaching Assistant to support a KS1 and KS2 group of Looked After Children with Special Educational Needs

Your new company
Hays Education are currently working with a Birmingham LA service that supports individuals Special Educational Needs & Disabilities. This South East Birmingham based setting support 'Looked after Children' across KS1 - KS2.

Your new role
This Teaching Assistant job will see you providing support to either a KS1 or KS2 group, working with students with Autism and Emotional Behavioural and Social Difficulties or Moderate Learning Difficulties and is expected to start from October Half term up until Christmas, with the possibility of the job continuing. This job requires 1:1 support of male pupils with personal care needs. The job will also include small group support, phonics, supporting reading and writing interventions, attending excursions and offsite activities and de-escalating challenging behaviour. Consequently you should be engaging passionate individual with the ability to engage disaffected individuals with special educational needs. Key aspects of this job include working cooperatively with the class teacher, to ensure students make progress. This is a full time role working 5 days per week.

What you'll need to succeed
To be suitable for this role you should be an experienced Teaching Assistant with a level 3 childcare qualification. You should have at least 6 months experience of working with primary aged children or young people with emotional behavioural and social difficulties (EBSD/ BESD/ EBD) and/ or Autism. You must have a minimum of 40 days experience of working in schools, centres or provisions that support EBSD/ BESD/ EBD within the last 2 years, which can be referenced. You will have experience of using PECS and/ or Makaton. Applicants with experience of working within residential care or supported living will have a significant advantage. You will be passionate about helping young people achieve the best of their potential, be thick skinned and have a good sense of humour a team teach qualification or training in crisis prevention (PROACT SKIP/ MAPA/ TEACHH) is advantageous.
