Vickers Neal Recruitment Solutions Ltd are currently working with Elegant Clutter based at their offices in Warwick.

Due to their continued growth we are currently recruiting for an Industrial Designer to join the growing team that specialises in designing and manufacturing bespoke artwork, sculpture, wall coverings and installation pieces for the Hospitality and Leisure Industry.

The role:
We welcome candidates who combine creative thinking with technical precision and common sense methods. The role sits within a team of 3 who report directly to the Product Design Manager and Creative Director. The role will become more autonomous over time and there is scope to develop at the same fast pace at which the company is evolving.

The individual will work on a broad range of creative and artistic projects ranging from designing completely new solutions for our artwork requirements such as sculptures and feature artworks to the technical application and construction of live projects. The role also encompasses a very practical nature in the manner of live project costing, production analysis and critical paths to production and completion.

The Candidate:
The candidate will have a bachelors or masters degree in Furniture design, Industrial Design, Product Design, 3D Design or equivalen. The ideal background would be from a design led, commercially focused studio that has worked in the same markets - hospitality and leisure. Design for exhibition, theatre and film is also viewed as highly relevant.

The right candidate must be able to sketch, explain and communicate their ideas as well as follow on from ideas generated by others in the team.

We would expect a keen interest in materials and manufacturing processes as well as a logical and pragmatic approach to problem solving and designing functional solutions. Knowledge of mechanics, joinery, machine cutting, material finishes and application is very advantageous as is Industry experience in a workshop scenario or a mixed technical/creative role. The Product design department is built upon its knowledge of both aesthetic and practical design applications and so the right candidate should be able to design and specify solutions that can be manufactured in house and by external suppliers.

The role offers frequent opportunity to see projects through from sketch concepts to final production and installation - often in very fast timescales. The Product Design team do not work in isolation and are frequently required to support production and fabrication of designs as well as explain techniques and intended design outputs to production. This aspect alone requires someone with the ability to sketch coherently and communicate patiently to a variety of producers and manufacturers.

The Designer must be able to demonstrate the ability to prioritise workload as well as work on multiple live and R&D projects at the same time. The role requires someone to be able to think creatively but to design and translate technically with the aid of CAD software, Adobe CS suite, rendering packages and cutting software for a wide range of industry machinery including CNC, laser cutters, Waterjet, 3D Printers, vinyl cutters, large format printers, etc.

Strong proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator and Acrobat
Practical and creative / Problem Solving Mind-set
Able to work in a fast paced design / production practice
