Skills and Knowledge Needed:
An ability to implement the company's preferred working practices.
An understanding and empathy with the older person with Mental Health and Nursing needs.
Worked within a Care Home setting for a Minimum of 2 years.
Knowledge of Care Quality Commission (CQC) Guidelines.
Gold Standard Framework for end of life Care
Knowledge of Dementia Strategy and Dementia mapping is desired but not essential
Hours: - Negotiated, contracted hours per week including weekend working
The organisation of the Home and attitude of the staff should reflect the need for residents to achieve and maintain maximum independence. Staff should be both flexible and sensitive in their approach. The Deputy Manager will work as a committed member of the Management Team within the Home and support the Home Manager specifically taking the lead responsibility for Dementia, GSF, and staff training. To actively promote and encourage as much personal independence and choice as possible within the activities of daily living and ensure person centred care is given at all times.
In the absence of the Home Manager, the Deputy will be expected to maintain the general day-to-day running of the Home, working alongside the Administration Manager and Housekeeper. He/she will be expected to provide continuity of care, laid down by the procedures operating within the Home, and be available to offer support and advice to all other members of staff, residents and relatives.
A staff development programme operates and all staff are required to keep up-to-date with legislation changes and the Home's policies and procedures.
The post holder will hold the relevant qualifications; have experience of working within a Dual Registered Care Home and proven knowledge and empathy of caring for the older person. It is essential that the post holder show strong professional leadership, a flexible attitude to work pattern and excellent communication skills. The role involves working at weekends to monitor service quality on a 7-day-a-week basis.
To ensure that the residents receive personalised quality care as identified in their care plan and ensure all entries are concise but relevant.
To support the Home Manager in carrying out initial assessments for prospective residents prior to admission and carrying out subsequent and on-going assessments to ensure that care is appropriate.
To ensure 24 hour continuity of care and maintain the privacy and dignity of the residents and ensure the safety of residents and staff.
To write, give and receive reports to colleagues and ensure that the Home Manager is kept informed of residents' health status, bed occupancy, staff sickness, staffing levels and any factors which might adversely affect the well-being of the residents and staff within the Home.
To ensure that the named carer and key-worker system work effectively.
To ensure that the image and reputation of the Home is both promoted and safeguarded at all times.
To ensure that the atmosphere of the Home is friendly and that the Residents feel safe and secure
To demonstrate a commitment to the holistic care of the client group, promoting the highest standards of work performance by the care staff team
To work as a full member of the multi-disciplinary team, liaising with them to ensure effective co-ordination of care
To complete medication, care plan and clinical audits
Clinical Specialist Responsibilities:
- To be responsible for End of life care for residents in the home and to ensure a high standard of end of life care. that all staff are aware of the importance of
- To be responsible for Staff training producing a workable Training Matrix for all grades of staff within the Home.
- To maintain a high standard of care to residents with Dementia needs and introduce the dementia strategy and dementia Mapping in to the Home. To ensure that all staff treat residents with dementing Illness with respect and understanding, and liaise with the community psychiatric team.
