Job Purpose

The purpose of this role is to lead a team of Platform and Commodity Engineers to develop and deliver the underframe to vehicle programmes whilst offering various archetypical designs according to platform requirements.

Key Responsibilities & Tasks
• Create and Manage 5 year commodity strategy plans and get relevant new technologies to IR within agreed function budget and timing
• Employ the above and develop strategic suppliers with purchasing to ensure innovation and competitiveness
• Manage platform cost prediction/status for additional models to demonstrate platform efficiency, demonstrating tool/piece (total and yearly spend) optimisation for business requirements
• Predicting future cost, mass and HPC on platform models - negative factors + optimisation + platform relevant tool/piece trades
• Develop underframe archetypes and define package, cost, mass and HPC benefits for each
• Responsible for competitor benchmarking
• Input into the Innovations Team to investigate future technologies
• Manage the status and introduction of new technologies when implementation ready, in conjunction with the Innovation Team
• Directly responsible for performance of commodity engineers' delivery to the Applications team
• Responsible for commodity/ body level engineering specifications (archetypes) for supply base and internal manufacturing teams
• Manage requirement for cost engineering support into platform team to ensure resources are correctly assigned
• Lead DFMEA RPN reduction on platform relevant design functions by reducing occurrence and increasing detection robustly within the supply base
• Develop high-level commodity plans in response to SEL and to support construction of VPP
• Define overall FESO requirements and overall buck plan
• Develop overall Virtual Series timing plan to support construction of VPP
• Strategic Resource Planning and recruitment
• Manage team, create, monitor and measure performance objectives
• Provide training and supervision of CAD engineers
• Devise and implement individual training plans

Qualifications & Experience
• Engineering degree (or equivalent) and experience within automotive engineering / product development
• Proven experience in the delivery of BIW underframe platforms
• Experience in project delivery from concept to serial production
• Experience in the use of aluminium and composite materials applied to BIW
• Understanding of BIW joining techniques
• Team leadership experience
• Knowledge of Siemens TeamCenter PLM Systems
• Knowledge on Siemens NX CAD system desirable
