Job Description
Indirect Tax Senior Manager/Manager

At KPMG, our values define who we are and the way we do business. As a leading professional services firm, we know that our strength and capability come from our people – their different perspectives, experiences and backgrounds. From our inclusive leadership strategy to our diversity and inclusion targets – we’re making bold changes to who we are and what we do. Be part of it.

Indirect tax includes VAT, customs duty, excise duty and environmental taxes. Our national Indirect Tax practice advises a very wide range of clients, from large corporates to start-ups to the public sector. Our VAT practice is the largest part of the Indirect Tax function.

VAT represents a key factor in a business’s cash flow and potentially a real bottom line cost. Constantly evolving case law, statute and HMRC guidance makes compliance a continuous challenge. Less than excellent house-keeping can result in penalties, damaged reputation and/or missed opportunities. Effectively managing both the risks and opportunities surrounding VAT is key.

We are currently considering applications in our National Markets business across our Birmingham and Nottingham offices in the following areas of Indirect tax:

VAT advisory services

VAT is often a company’s third largest cash flow but the focus is on compliance, with little resource dedicated to its effective management. Cash and cash flow is a key priority for businesses, and VAT has a major impact on these. Our VAT advisory team combines expert technical knowledge with an innovative approach to help client manage VAT cash flows and reporting and compliance obligations.

Public Sector and Healthcare

Our Public Sector team provide tax advisory services to a broad base of clients including healthcare, education, charities and social housing providers. The team delivers bespoke solutions to clients to help them manage cash and cashflows and the implication Indirect Tax has on finances and funding for projects.

Environmental Taxes

The Environmental Taxes team helps clients to understand, comply with and reduce the burden of environmental taxes.

Customs and Excise Duty

Our team works with clients involved in the international movement of goods. We help them to comply with complex customs and trade regulations, guide their management and payment of customs duties and help to identify means to reduce overall costs.

Qualifications and Skills

- Qualified CTA or ACA/CA or equivalent
- Prior Indirect Tax experience
