Job DescriptionThe Team

Our National Markets Supply Chain & Operations (“SC&O”) team is seeking an experienced consultant and industry professional to grow, develop and assist in the leadership of our capability and team in the Midlands region. Our brand and reputation mean that we work on high profile projects, using our experience to create innovative solutions to our clients’ issues.
Within National Markets we work with a wide range of companies in many different industries, delivering improvements in their supply chain and procurement operations and alignment to the wider business, which is integral to improving overall profitability. The SC&O team work across the additional NM capabilities including Tech Enablement, People & Change, Customer & Digital, as well as our teams in Audit, Tax, Restructuring and Transactional Services.

The Role

Whilst KPMG work across many markets, this role is focused on what we refer to as National Markets. Key industry segments for National Markets SC&O are Consumer Goods, Retail and Industrial Markets.
As this role relates to our team in the Midlands segment of National Markets, the successful candidate will be based in the region ideally in KPMG’s
office but will need to display a flexible attitude to working and be prepared to travel/ work at other locations within the UK and internationally.

No two client projects are identical, but the typical roles and responsibilities for a Senior Manager include selling and delivering complex engagements. Candidates should have experience of selling, leading and delivering Procurement projects (Cost Optimisation, Purchase to Pay, Sourcing, Contract Management, Supplier Management, Risk Management) and ideally would also have experience of Supply Chain projects (Supply Chain Analytics, Operational cost reduction, Planning, and Logistics) as well as an awareness of the other National Market capabilities including wider IT enabled transformation, customer & growth, operating model and enterprise cost reduction projects.

The key services are outlined below:

Cost and Cash Optimisation

- Analyse category spend and identify procurement cost reduction opportunities

- Delivering cost reduction across clients third party cost base, using both cost (including specification, price, consumption, policy controls and tail management reviews) and cash levers (including payables, order fulfilment and inventory), supported by technology solutions.

- Proven experience of major supplier contract audits/assessments across large portfolios of third party spend to identify value leakage.

- Enhancement of client contract management capability e.g. org, skills, KPIs, tools.

- Delivering contract compliance audits and value assurance solutions.

- Delivering inventory reduction / management programmes, optimising client’s manufacturing footprint & distribution networks and delivering network rationalisation for our clients.

- Developing and implementing complex service related payment mechanisms, including payment by results models.


- Providing procurement transformation covering processes, people and technology, to deliver improvements in operating model (inc. cost to serve), organisation structure, processes and underpinning technology, including embedding the cultural change.

- Evaluating insource / outsource for back- and middle-office as well as frontline services - including working in or delivering outsourced contracts.

- Developing optimal service delivery models.

- Producing and delivering structured training courses to upskill an existing procurement and supply chain team.

- Leading teams and developing the Procurement Capabilities of KPMG and / or Client staff


- Providing analytical services, including spend analysis, maturity assessments, opportunity assessments and inventory analysis.

- Supporting the quantification of potential savings and ongoing benefits tracking and realisation.

- Providing warehouse, fulfilment & delivery strategy diagnostics, along with the assessment of operations networks.

The Person

Business Development
- Generating sales to hit an individual and national team revenue target related to £0.75m a year. • Developing and selling new opportunities to grow the business and replace existing projects
- Proven sales and delivery experience of £0.25m+ projects in Retail, Consumer Goods and Industrial Markets. Experience in other sectors desirable.
- Build and develop strong relationships with target clients and understand the key issues affecting them to develop targeted proposals.
- Selling opportunities that incorporate solutions and teams from the wider firm e.g. proven ability to go to market with the Liquidity (Working Capital), Contract Compliance teams and Deal advisory teams.
- Developing and maintaining relationships at Board level.
- Leading and overseeing delivery of multiple cross-functional engagements, leading teams drawn from across wider firm to deliver the full value chain of a project from strategy through to implementation and improvement.

Practice Development
- Guiding and informing the development of new propositions and technologies and solutions through knowledge gained in the market place e.g. Cost Optimisation, Spend Analytics Managed Service, Powered Procurement, Cost to Serve, Brexit etc

- Development of thought leadership and participation in brand-building and brand-awareness exercises

People and Operations
- Assisting the leadership of the UK Supply Chain & Operations practice in National Markets, as well as being an integral part of the Midlands region.
- Performance management responsibilities for team members in National Markets
- Managing and improving on key operational indicators within the wider business
- Proven experience of managing Supply Chain & Procurement staff and contingent project ledgers within a Big 4 or equivalent
- From an engagement perspective, ensuring projects are run with the targeted levels of financial performance (revenues, EP, cash collection), including SAP and Sentinel (risk procedures)

In addition, applicants should be educated to degree level or equivalent. Postgraduate or professional qualification (e.g. MBA/CIPS/CILT) or industry experience in Supply Chain or Procurement is advantageous.
