Seeking a patient and calm effective practitioner to teach KS1 and KS2 pupils with Autism


Your new company
Hays is working with a Birmingham based Special School. This is a 'good' school that is well resourced and has a strong team Ethic. The school support pupils with Autism (ASC or ASD).

Your new role
This job role will involve teaching in a small class of pupils in KS1 and/or KS2, who are working at different learning levels. Therefore this job requires someone with the ability to assess learning, plan and differentiate work to ensure all pupils access an engaging bespoke programme of learning. This is a full time teaching job, due to start after October 17 and is expected to last for 1 term with possibility of continuing for the academic year, possibly extending into the next.

What you'll need to succeed
To be suitable for this role you should be an experienced Teacher with a minimum of 6 months experience of working with children or young people with (high and low functioning) Autism and/ or emotional behavioural and social difficulties (EBSD/ BESD/ EBD). You must have a minimum of 40 days experience of working in schools ideally (Primary), centres or provisions that support EBSD/ BESD/ EBD which can be referenced. Only Applicants with QTS will be considered and those Primary trained will have a significant advantage. You will be passionate about helping young people achieve the best of their potential, be thick skinned and have a good sense of humour. A team teach qualification or training in crisis prevention (PROACT SKIP/ MAPA/ TEACHH) is advantageous and you will Makaton and or PECS conversant. Candidates without significant and recent Primary experience will not be considered.
