The role
Highways England is looking to recruit for a Lean Manager, to deploy Lean techniques to deliver improved value for money and realise tangible efficiencies across design, construction and client processes, and to contribute to the development of Lean capability within the Region and in the supply chain. Support the development of Lean capability, knowledge sharing and behavioural change across the Region and its supply chain to achieve a Continuous Improvement culture .

Day to day

  • Develop and maintain strong, collaborative, working relationships with internal stakeholders and the Region's supply chain, to promote and gain commitment to Lean methodologies, to identify and evaluate benefits and to share best practices.
  • Collaborate with Lean Practitioners on process improvement projects in support of the Lean deployment strategy.
  • Deploy Lean techniques to review and develop processes in agreed priority areas to maintain or improve service quality whilst reducing waste in time or cost.
  • Gain regional commitment to the realisation of sustainable benefits from business improvement strategies and methodologies.
  • Contribute to areas of new or improved Lean processes to encourage best value solutions, and to effectively support delivery of positive outcomes.
  • Coach, develop, mentor and engage colleagues, in support of the development of Lean capability and culture within the Region.
  • Support the senior leadership team in developing and driving the implementation of a Lean strategy for the region.
  • Ensuring evidence can be provided to show where Lean methodology has been used to create the efficiency.

About you

  • Expert in problem solving, process improvement and the use of Lean techniques
  • Proven delivery record process improvement and demonstrable efficiency contribution
  • Able to deal with all stakeholders both internal and externally
  • Experience of effectively using performance measurement and management processes, or ability to develop this capability.
  • High resilience, to deal constructively with conflicting priorities and setbacks.
  • Excellent communicator, to clarify and ensure understanding of Lean techniques and benefits
  • Commercially focused, to drive improvements and value for money
  • Strong analytical skills, to analyse design, construction and client processes and identify efficiencies.
  • High integrity, to build trust with all stakeholders
  • Lean Sigma expert practitioner
  • Expert in problem solving, process improvement and the use of Lean techniques
