Operations Manager

Location: West Bromwich, West Midlands

Position: Permanent, full-time

The Company

Serene Furnishings is one of the UK's fastest growing Furniture Wholesalers; sourcing products globally and supplying a network of stockist across the UK, we consider ourselves to be a well-established business within our industry.

An exciting opportunity, for an experienced Operations Manager has arisen within our business, based at the company’s Head Office in West Bromwich, in order to maintain service level in line with the company’s growth. The role is critical to the on-going success of the business and will provide great challenges for the successful candidate who is able to display drive, initiative and determination.

About the opportunity

You will lead and head the overall Operations of the Business (Warehouse / Transport and Health & Safety), reporting directly to the Managing Director. The role will entail managing:

  • Staff (15 - 20) within the respective departments

  • Warehouse Space spanning 180k sq. ft. which is split over two sites

  • A fleet of 12 - 15 HGV vehicles and their maintenance programme

  • Drive Health & Safety for the overall business

  • Drive through continuous improvements within the operation

About you

  • An experienced warehouse manager, or warehouse section, shift, department or line manager used to managing teams of colleagues through direct reports, ideally from a fast paced and high volume Retail or 3PL environment
  • Expert across all areas of warehousing operations, to include intake, replenishment, picking, despatch, loading, quality, H&S
  • Providing consistently high levels of customer service delivery, monitoring department performance and productivity, coaching and developing your team, always within a safe and compliant operating environment
  • A natural leader and people motivator, ensuring optimum site productivity is achieved, always looking for areas to improve and enhance, familiarity of 5S or process improvement techniques also advantageous
  • Ideally from a high volume customer focused 'day 1, for day 2’ warehousing background, though it is your leadership interpersonal and communication skills which will be essential to your application
  • Commercially astute with a keen eye for detail, continuous improvements, removal of waste and cost, a confident user of IT with good familiarity of WMS and associated technology

The successful applicant

To be considered for this role, you will need to have:

  • 5 years minimum experience in warehouse/operations management

  • Provide primary leadership for the warehouse and transport departments

  • Hiring and developing staff members

  • Understanding key business processes and propose right-sized IT/System solutions to support them

  • Developing KPI/metrics

  • Successful experience implementing warehouse/operational strategies and associated change management activities

  • Strong leadership skills and demonstrated ability to influence teams/individuals to become leaders

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to prepare/deliver presentations and lead meetings

  • Strong computer skills

  • Addressing insource vs. outsource in addition to optimum use and practices within existing warehouse / transport network

  • Support new projects and opportunities.

  • Ability to deliver results on time and budget to a high standard Carry out regular audits.

  • Provide KPI’s to the MD.
