Following a number of years of profitable growth, we are continuing the expansion of our team to enable further market penetration and greater client support. We are now seeking an ambitious Consultant Hydrogeologist to join our growing team and fulfill a key role in achieving these goals.

The base office will be in Southam, very close to the historic market town of Leamington Spa, and the successful candidate will play an important role in the growth of the business in the Midlands. SOCOTEC UK Limited has offices across England, Scotland and Wales, and the role will also provide the opportunity to work in different regions and on a wide variety of projects in the fields of waste / resource efficiency and environmental management.

About the role:

This is a broad role which enables progression within it through a number of levels of seniority based on experience and ability. The successful candidate will be supported in the role by "on the job" and specific training courses to ensure development of technical and operational competence, and to facilitate the individuals career progression in accordance with a bespoke career development plan which we will create.

This is a broad role and the successful candidate would undertake a range of duties potentially including but not limited to the following:

- Desk based hydrogeological assessment.
- Design of well installations.
- Design of and interpretation of data from pumping tests, and preparing regulatory applications for pumping tests.
- Providing advice on borehole maintenance and optimising well yield.
- Preparation of risk assessments and method statements.
- Management of field work in accordance with company technical standards and health and safety requirements.
- Collection of samples, processing of data and data interpretation.
- Controlled waters quantitative risk assessment (QRA).
- Hydrogeological characterisation of sites, which may include the use of industry-standard models.
- The assessment of land use impacts on water resources and water quality.
- Providing support to project managers.
- Preparation of reports, both factual and interpretative.
- Day to day management of projects / tasks, including management of laboratory and other supplier involvement, budgets and timeframes.
- Involvement in the creation of successful proposals.
- Delivery of all work (field and office based) safely and in line with SOCOTEC UK Limited's safety policies and procedures.
- Providing excellent customer service to existing and new clients.

Based in the SOCOTEC Southam office (although other locations may be considered) the successful candidate will provide support to Project Managers by assisting with these elements of the work. The role will involve working on site and in other SOCOTEC offices on occasion.

The role would suit candidates with environmental consultancy experience and a background in hydrogeology, particularly with experience of its application to the assessment of waste management facilities and contaminated sites. Candidates may have a broad environmental consultancy background or have been more focussed within the waste management/resource efficiency, environmental permitting or geo-environmental sectors.

The successful candidate will have a relevant academic background and be qualified to degree level with both BSc and MSc qualifications. Ideal subjects include a combination of geology or geochemistry / chemistry with hydrogeology. Having worked in this field previously the ideal candidate will also have:

Previous experience in site investigation, water risk assessment or environmental assessment work, preferably within an environmental consultancy.
Experience of the characterisation of surface and groundwater interactions.

- Knowledge and practical experience of the methodologies and techniques available for sampling of environmental media such as groundwater, leachate, soil and wastes.
- Experience in the supervision of environmental site works and factual / interpretative reporting for a range of projects.
- Numerate with experience of MODFLOW / solute transport modelling.
- Project management skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commercial awareness.
- A strong customer focussed engagement style.
- Excellent IT skills including MS Office applications and a selection of industry specific specialist packages.
- Membership of a relevant professional institute and working towards Chartership.
- A full UK driving licence.
