Are you a qualified commercial lawyer looking for a new challenge in a forward-thinking FTSE100 business where you can really make an impact?

We are looking for a Commercial Lawyer to join our dynamic team to provide expert legal guidance partnering with our Commercial and Construction teams. As an in-house lawyer at Severn Trent you will seek to understand the business and help drive its strategic objectives whilst providing technical legal support. You will be open to taking on new challenges and proactively seek new ways of working utilising your knowledge of upcoming changes in legal and regulatory requirements.

Your role will include proactively looking at strategic/policy objectives of Severn Trent with a view of influencing key stakeholders, leading on projects and challenging decisions where required. Your role will also be to assist with the management of external lawyers to deliver cost effective legal services and improve the performance of Severn Trent for the longer term. You will be expected to continuously challenge the way work is currently carried out and implement necessary business performance improvements. You will develop and maintain our current policies and procedures, processes, tools and techniques that align with best practice. You’ll raise awareness through targeted training and also take the lead within relevant special interest associations and lobbying groups. In this role, you will need to be able to project manage and deliver the legal outputs within wider business projects by working as an integrated team member. Working without close supervision, you will be capable of running projects to deliver business outcomes. You will need to apply your expertise in law, but also be able to keep your advice purposeful and meaningful for your non-legal colleagues. You will need to be comfortable in a changing environment and thrive on challenges beyond your everyday work.

As an in-house lawyer, your key skills and competencies will include:
- Experience working as a commercial lawyer
- Strong experience of non-contentious commercial legal matters
- Excellent work ethic and an enthusiasm to drive and see ideas through to completion
- Ability to excel under pressure and juggle challenging workloads/timeframes
- Ability to build relationships in order to effectively influence, challenge and add value
