£55,000 to £65,000 per annum (depending on experience) + Excellent Benefits
Monday – Friday

Our client based in Shropshire is a market leader who has developed a global reputation for delivering high quality products and services across a range of market sectors. They are now recruiting a new position to the business for an Operations Manager to restructure manufacturing and production operations for greater efficiency and productivity. For the right candidate there is the potential of becoming a Director of the business.

Main Purpose of Job

Provide leadership and management for the manufacturing and production department operations, achieve operational objectives and meet customer requirements.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

• Provide operational leadership to the production facility.
• Develop, implement, improve and manage production processes, workflows and systems of work to meet customer requirements and delivery schedules. Initiate and drive continuous improvement throughout the production process.
• Set and maintain operational and capital budgets, proactively seeking opportunities to reduce costs and improve productivity.
• Manage the site stock control and variances. Establish the correct stock levels to maintain production activity in close liaison with the Purchasing Manager, taking into account sales forecasts and storage constraints. Participate in stocktake activities as required.
• Provide data interpretation, reports and recommendations to the business to assist with the strategic direction of the production facility.
• Develop, monitor and evaluate key performance goals for functions and direct reports in line with the strategic plan.
• Take overall responsibility for the leadership, performance management, development, recruitment, training and induction of all staff within department.
• Introduction measures to monitor and evaluate staff performance. Undertake coaching, mentoring and training activities to develop and upskill direct reports. Where necessary take remedial action to deal with poor performance and instigate appropriate measures to deal with misconduct.
• Drive the development of a positive internal culture that retains key employees and encourages their professional development. Increase departmental effectiveness, engagement and accountability by communicating values, strategies and objectives.
• Responsibility for the production schedule, ensuring that workflow through the production site is efficient and effective. Schedule planning and analysis on a weekly basis.
• Develop and maintain communication lines with other departments, including Distribution, Engineering, Export, Marketing, Purchasing, Sales, etc., to understand objectives, current constraints and future developments.
• Work with the Logistics Manager to ensure that product availability meets agreed delivery schedules and customer requirements.
• Liaise with the Engineering Manager to ensure that the plant maintenance programme is maintained.
• Daily monitoring of production activities and resolution of issues when they arise.
• Regular review of future workloads ensuring resources are adequate at all times (workforce, raw materials etc.).
• Maintain personal and professional development to meet the changing demands of the job and participate in appropriate training and development activities.

You will have a proven track record in a production, manufacturing or engineering organisation, with responsibility for strategic decisions and implementing new processes and procedures in line with the strategy. You will have experience of changing processes to improve productivity, possess strong people management skills with the ability to develop and support direct reports IT literate and proficient in all Microsoft Office applications, with experience of using ERP systems is advantageous.
