Are you a graduate looking for 1:1 classroom based experience?

Do you want exposure within SEN Primary education?

Are you looking for a teaching assistant role from September in an Outstanding school?

The school

This is an SEN school near Stechford. Students have a range of special needs including profound and multiple needs and most are on the Autistic Spectrum. This school is a large school with a long-standing teaching team in place and good funding. The leadership team are focusing funds on individual and small group support, play, music and sensory therapy and enhanced learning support. The school is looking to put in place more teaching assistants to provide dedicated support on a 1:1 basis for students with Autism and profound difficulties. The leadership team are putting excellent plans in place to develop the school and improve areas that have not been able to have the concentration required; recruiting outstanding graduates (preferably Psychology degrees) for teaching assistant roles is one of the ways they hope to meet these aims.

The role

As a graduate, you will be working on a 1:1 basis with one student who is on the Autistic Spectrum. The student also has some mild challenging behaviour. Your focus will be to support the teacher in delivering lesson plans and gaining as much success and development for this student as possible. You will work as a teaching assistant communicating regularly with the educational psychology department and providing input about your student’s development. Where needed, you will provide support to other students when group work is undertaken within Literacy and Maths.

The candidate

You are a graduate (preferably in psychology) looking to get into teaching or educational psychology. You already have some experience, paid or voluntary in Primary or preferable special education needs environments. You have an understanding of the needs and challenges young people face with learning and developing skills and have the aptitude to support and lead students in their learning. Your experience has opened up your understanding of students with Autism and those with profound difficulties and you can demonstrate how and where you have contributed to the positive development of students and teams. Your experience to date and your degree puts you in a great position to prove you have something to contribute to a school with huge potential and high ambitions and your high standards and education are exactly what this class needs. You are confident and can demonstrate and ability to work independently and implement plans and instruction with accuracy, dedication and compassion.

If you want to be a part of this fun and dynamic school and be a part of a strong tightly knit team contact Anthony McClellan with your CV.
