Part Time Assistant Cook - 4 Vacancies

Salary £17,355- £17,835 per annum, pro rata

Ranging between 13.5 and 28 hours per week, morning and evening hours available

Assistant Cook 3 7.30am - 1.00pm Thursday to Saturday

Assistant Cook 4 7.00am - 2.00pm Saturday to Monday

Assistant Cook 5 3.30pm - 8.00pm Sunday to Wednesday

Assistant Cook 6 3.30pm - 8.00pm Thursday to Saturday

Fircroft is a residential college occupying a former Cadbury family home, set in six acres of beautiful grounds in Selly Oak, Birmingham. We were originally founded to provide educational opportunities for some of the most disadvantaged and excluded members of society. One hundred years on from the birth of Fircroft College, its mission of 'social justice' is more relevant than ever. Fircroft is a thriving and ambitious College with a vast and diverse community of learners and a strong ethos.

We are looking to appoint five Assistant Cooks to cover a range of hours within our catering team. The key purpose of these roles will be to provide efficient and effective support in the kitchen to the Cook on duty. The main responsibilities will be to assist the Cook with food service across the day and any other duties as required. Other duties will include food preparation and cooking meals, serving food from the hot counter, washing up by hand or by using the automatic dish washer and setting up the dining room. You will be expected to follow a set menu to include traditional meals, vegetarian and some ethnic cookery. The role also involves working creatively with the Cook to ensure all diverse cultures and dietary requirements are catered for.

To be considered for this role you must have an NVQ 2 certificate in catering (or equivalent) and hold a basic Food Hygiene certificate. It is desirable that you have a good standard of education and able to demonstrate a sound understanding of basic food regulations. The successful candidate will have experience of working in a catering environment. It is essential that you have an awareness and commitment to safeguarding and equality, diversity and inclusion. You must be able to communicate effectively with students and other members of staff whilst having a flexible and reliable approach to work.

The right person will be someone who enjoys working at a fast pace with a variety of different tasks.
