We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic person for the role of Senior Technical Specialist for Amazon Web Services (AWS) at CBS. As the subject matter expert subject matter expert within CBS IT for the strategic AWS platform you will play a key role in the development of the AWS architectural strategy. You will also ensure the introduction of the AWS platform within the Society meets business requirements within the overall IT Service strategy.

You will be a major influencer in the design, build and implementation of platforms and processes that support the migration and development of cloud-based services. You will also have a key role in the on-going development of the AWS platform to meet future business needs. You will be passionate about developing cloud-centric solutions based upon AWS and ensuring that the new services introduced meet stringent criteria that you will be instrumental in defining.

You will be constantly looking for improvement opportunities which will involve coaching, mentoring, planning, supervising, supporting and training of team members and staff within IT and other business areas.

Role related knowledge and expertise:


  • Solid experience of core Amazon infrastructure including EC2, S3, ELB’s, Auto scaling, Lambda, RDS, VPC’s, Security Groups, IAM, Cloud Formation

  • Solid understanding of Amazon availability zones, regions and HA strategies

  • In-depth understanding of cloud based architectures, specifically AWS.

  • Previous experience as a VMware\Linux\Windows system administrator building & supporting enterprise computing platforms and systems (or equivalent)

  • Previous experience of supporting virtualization technologies (or equivalent)

  • Strong scripting/automation skills

  • Experience working with AWS or other cloud/virtualization services such as AZURE

  • In-depth understanding of cloud networking security concepts, such as IP subnets, security groups, NACLs, routing, firewalls.


  • Windows/Vmware SME background.

  • Working knowledge of physical to virtual migrations into AWS or Azure.

  • Monitoring and Dashboard creation within the AWS Cloud Watch platform.

  • Familiarity with the concept of infrastructure/software development paths such as AGILE and LEAN

  • Familiarity with agile software development methods, and working as part of an Agile Team.

  • Flexible approach to working hours to meet own objectives and assist colleagues in meeting their objectives.

  • A further education qualification (or equivalent), preferably in a computing subject with extensive experience delivering monitoring services and solutions to a mission critical environment
