Job Title: Therapeutic Practitioner Sexual Trauma
Reports to: Registered Manager
Salary: £10.15P/H £30.00 P/S
Hours: Earlys,lates,sleeps (shift rota basis)
JOB DESCRIPTION
Purpose and summary of job:
To support and enhance the professional psychological care of Young People within the service by assisting the Registered Manager, the care team, qualified psychologists and Assistant Psychologists with the practical care and therapeutic support of the young people in our services.
To thereby help understand, prevent and ameliorate psychological distress and disorder and improve the mental health and wellbeing of our young people. The therapeutic practitioner will be a member of the floor staff and be responsible for implementing and modelling strategies put in place by the clinical and care team.
The home in providing treatment for children who have suffered early life trauma as the victims of serious abuse and /or profound neglect. These children having suffered intolerable abuse and negative experiences have very complex need. As a result, the children have serious emotional difficulties that include development and attachment problems. They will have little if any understanding of acceptable behaviour in groups. Their behaviours, a defence against the early life experiences, are set as an unhealthy inner world as early as 3 years old. Many if not most of the children will have experienced repeated family breakdowns and placement breakdowns. Unaided they may carry trauma into adulthood, and potentially, repeat those act of abuse upon their own and other children. The home admits children between the ages of 4-12 on admission, however we will consider children older than 12 (13 and 14yrs old) where their presenting needs are more akin to that of a younger child.
Location
The Home itself is based in a diverse and multi-cultural community of South Derbyshire. The home is approximately 20 minutes’ drive from Burton Town Centre and approximately 40 minutes’ drive from Derby city centre. The location of the home allows easy access to various local attractions. The location of the home is in-line with it therapeutic and nurturing approach as the surrounding area is in the countryside along with farms, nature and walk trails.
Knowledge
Knowledge of Mental Health Issues
Understanding of Mental Health diagnosis
Skills
Ability to communicate at all levels.
Ability to work in a Team.
Able to contribute to the planning of care.
Able to use and work on own initiative.
Ability to undertake the shift patterns
Ability to run Therapy groups.
Good interpersonal skills
Able to assist patients with daily living skills
Qualifications
A Degree in Psychology (At The Time Of Appointment)
Able to register with the British Psychological Society
Experience
Experience within a rehabilitation setting
Evidence of working within a team
Previous experience in the care of Mental Health patients/clients.
Previous experience in care environment.
Requirements for DBS and reference checking will be undertaken in line with government regulations and safer recruitment best practice.
