A leading multinational Automotive business based in Staffordshire are looking to recruit a Buyer. Due to continued growth, the business is expanding their supply chain team and is in need of a dynamic, proactive and assertive Purchasing professional to manage a large spend across several direct categories. The business has state of the art facilities and can offer genuine opportunities for progression and development.

This role is based in the Staffordshire area however is accessible from Stoke, Derby, Burton and Northern Birmingham.

The Role

As a Buyer you will be responsible for managing a direct category of spend of c£30m and will work alongside a team of Buyers, reporting in to the Purchasing Manager. This role does not have any direct reports. You will be challenged with cost reduction, managing and reducing suppliers and making strategic procurement decisions.

Your role will involve understanding of supplier performance in respect to new product introductions, quality, cost, risk and management. You will be visiting suppliers as well as using initiative and industry knowledge to build on relationships. There are elements of domestic and international travel involved in this role.

Key responsibilities include -

* effectively build and manage relationships and in line with category strategies

* managing costs (should-cost models, cost reductions, value creation, etc) and driving savings which will show in the P&L

* working closely with sales, business development and finance with regards to upcoming needs

* observing market tendencies (innovation, overall state of supplier market and vendors)

* monitoring supplier performance using agreed metrics and be responsible for communication and monitoring of improvement plans

* letting rules of engagement with divisions / country organisations (including subsequent control of compliance)

The Person

Based in the Stafforshire area, as Buyer my client are looking for candidates with the below experience -


* Strong category management experience

* A track record of supplier management

* Assertive and proactive attitude

* Experience of managing a large spend in a manufacturing environment

* Proven ability to drive cost reduction projects and change throughout organisation

* Strong analytical skills with the ability to develop methodologies for collecting and analyzing data

* Strong negotiation skills and understanding of key contractual terms



* Degree educated, ideally in Business, Economics, Engineering, Law or other relevant field


* Experience of the Automotive sector
