Currently we are looking for a Tax Manager to join our fast-paced and dynamic finance team with the remit to manage and undertake reporting on all aspects of corporation tax, VAT and IPT and some aspects of employment taxes.
You will be expected to drive improvements in tax compliance, governance, forecasting and reporting; will provide high quality and timely advice to RAC businesses and optimise the tax position of the group.
Day-to-day responsibilities include:
-Manage/carry out Corporation Tax ("CT") return process including supervision of the work of the tax accountant
-Manage/carry out tax reporting on a monthly, quarterly, half year and full year basis, including liaison with Finance team and external auditors
-Provide accurate and reliable tax input to budgets and forecasts as required by central finance team
-Manage/carry out quarterly VAT/IPT reporting including supervising the work of the VAT assistant
-Maintain, improve and optimize the VAT partial exemption arrangements and underlying model
-Manage SAO process including preparation of file for SAO sign-off and identification and resolution of control weaknesses in conjunction with operational teams across the business
-Plan, perform and document periodic system and process control checks across the business on all matters which could affect reported tax numbers
-Plan and carry out work required to respond to all HMRC enquiries and audit visits
-Deputise for Head of Tax as required
-Respond to ad hoc requests for tax advice and help from business finance and operational teams
-Provide tax input to IT project teams as required, in particular where tax rate/rule changes require systems updates
-Implement tax planning initiatives in all areas including CT, VAT, IPT and employment taxes
-Prepare and optimize R&D tax credit claims including producing fully justifiable supporting documentation by liaison with IT and project teams across the business, for submission to HMRC
Skills, Knowledge and qualifications
The successful individual will possess:
-Corporate Tax or VAT experience to at least tax manager level either in practice or in-house
-ACA qualification or equivalent (CTA qualification an advantage but not essential)
-CT and VAT knowledge is essential; and IPT and employment tax knowledge is desirable, with experience gained through in-house and/or practice roles
-Strong financial accounting/book-keeping skills
-Strong tax accounting experience
-Good commercial awareness
-Experience of CT software and accounting systems
-Strong spreadsheet modelling skills
-Experience working in fast-paced delivery-focused environments
-Experience of working in a small or medium sized in-house team in a fast-paced environment is an advantage, as is experience in a private equity backed business
