The school

This is an SEN school near Selly Oak. Students have a range of special needs including severe and multiple needs. This school is well funded and very well established as a leader in education. This is a large SEN school with students of all ages and has a strong teaching assistant team. The leadership team are focusing funds on supporting students with physical and multiple needs, providing more dedicated speech and language therapy and educational psychological support. There is a wonderful further range of support for students including music therapy. The staff are creative and dedicated and receive excellent support from the leadership team.

The role

As a psychology graduate, you will be supporting an experienced SEN teacher and working with two other teaching assistants within a class of 8 students. You will also be working alongside the educational psychologist in providing dedicated support to individual students. Your focus will be to support the class through each lesson and provide support to individual students while following the guidance of the educational psychologist.

The candidate

You are a graduate (preferably in psychology) looking to get into teaching or educational psychology. You already have some experience, paid or voluntary in Primary or preferable special education needs environments. You have an understanding of the needs and challenges young people face with learning and developing life skills and have the aptitude to support and lead students in their learning. Your experience to date and your degree puts you in a great position to prove you have something to contribute to an existing fantastic school and your high standards and education are exactly what this team needs.
