In a nutshellThe senior delivery manager is responsible for a group of projects for abusiness area, which can be delivered through agile, waterfall or hybridmethodologies as part of a multi functional team approach. The projectsneed to be delivered to time, cost and quality, whilst being managed toan acceptable level of risk. The senior delivery manager may also berequired to oversee large and complex projects as a programme of work,and needs to provide governance of the projects which are deliveredthrough many areas across the Digital and Technology Division, otherparts of the Sainsbury's Group and external suppliers. The seniordelivery manager is required to provide leadership, coaching andmentoring to the delivery team to develop a motivated and successfulproject management capability with Sainsbury's.What I need to do Responsible for the delivery of the portfolio of work to meet theagreed business requirements within time, cost and quality constraints,in accordance with the agreed standards & methods, working with therelevant teams within Digital and Technology, with external suppliersand across the Group to achieve the desired result . Ensures that a robust business strategy/business case is developed inconjunction with the business and that the right level of businesssupport and signoff is obtained. Ensures all elements of the solutioncomply with the standards and policies issued by CTO throughout the lifeof the project Work as part of a multi functional self organising team, showingleadership in the delivery space and effective collaborative working inall other areas. Responsible for Project Management:oDesign and implement a programme governance framework which, in turn,deliver the benefits and outcomes needed to meet the visionoDevelop a work breakdown structure (WBS) for the project and achievableplans to deliver the products defined in the WBS and that these arevalidated by all key stakeholdersoDevelop a sprint and release plan that realises the benefits earliestin the investment lifecycle and is ready to fail fast or stop when abusiness case weakensoEnsure that the business focuses on developing appropriate acceptancecriteria and benefit realisation plansoEnsure elements of the Sainsbury Operating Framework and best practicedelivery approaches are applied as appropriateoChampion and drive further best practice approaches providing feedbackto enable continuous improvement cross the DivisionoEstablish a culture of risk awareness and actively manage risks and issuesoEnsure robust financial management of the project in accordance withpolicies and performance indicators Responsible for ensuring the best long term return on investment isobtained through the delivery of the programme/projects, includingmobilising supply chains with a suitable commercial engagement modelthat delivers best value for money. Develops highly effective relationships with colleagues at all levelsin the organisation to deliver the optimal solution, escalating to theProject Sponsor where necessary (providing evaluated recommendations) toensure the programme is completed to time, cost and quality Ensures key stakeholders remain appropriately informed of theprogramme's progress Responsible for managing, developing and appraising the project team,ensuring teams are highly motivated & focused on delivery, andcolleague's career aspirations are realised Responsible for quality assuring the programme against the agreedquality assurance standards and discrete quality plans/performance indicators Regularly reviews the progress of programmes and optimises thedeliverables, approaches and constraints to ensure the business case isrealised at pace Contributes to post implementation reviews and contributes back to thewider knowledge base of expertiseHow I will succeed Projects/ Programmes are delivered on time, at agreed cost and quality- and widely recognised as having delivered valuable change at pace bythe business Deliveries are structured to optimise the investment required todeliver the maximum return through agile and phasing techniques Bids are delivered to timescales and quality expectations of thecustomer and then delivered on wholly in line with expectations Risks are identified, mitigated and managed to ensure no adverseimpact to business outcomes and operations Customer satisfaction scores confirming delivery to expectations Actual costs in line with budgeted costs: Next period's forecastshould be at least 90% accurate Colleague Engagement Index What I need to know Educated to degree level Track record of applying varying project management, tools,technologies & techniques with expertise in best practice projectmanagement/agile methodologies and approaches - for example, PRINCE2 andthe APM Body of Knowledge, scaled agile frameworks etc Understanding of IT architecture, design, development methods,operational service & support Experience and knowledge of the IT investment evaluation process,including cost/benefit analysis and estimating IT cost/resources forboth defined & undefined initiatives Understanding of the dynamics and regulatory frameworks of theFinancial Services industry and the implications this has for ITdelivery and operations Experience of delivering projects through a variety of methodologiesincluding Agile and Waterfall and can articulate the advantages anddisadvantages of these methods in relation to different programmes of work Expert in coaching others to constructively challenge situations andto make empowered and impactful decisions Experience in energising and leading the team through enabling them tosee how their work impacts the business results and ensuring they remaininformed on relevant business information How to apply commercial disciplines to the 'bid to delivery' cycle toensure expectations and risks are managed effectively with all stakeholdersWhat I need to show Track record of successfully managing large or complex IT programmes/projects through the full lifecycle with an ability to manage multiplestakeholders with varying objectives. Successful application of a variety of delivery approaches. Ability to challenge/influence business strategy/business case/requirements Recognises the importance of the customer through creatingopportunities to talk to customers on a wide scale (highlighting theDigital and Technology Division's successes) and supporting/enablingdecisions to be made based on customer feedback, insights and trends Proactively reflects and challenges when results aren't being achievedand addresses areas requiring resolution.
