Scrum Master

You will work within the Sainsbury's Digital & Technology team to help deliver a wide range of software solutions to create value, drive efficiency and increase performance for the business. You will be a key part of Sainsbury's Digital & Technology strategy to build high quality software products whenever value can be added.

Your role will involve being a true servant leader implementing best practice scrum across one or more cross functional agile development teams. You will focus on delivering product value as well as doing your bit to drive Sainsbury's Engineering strategy forward to both ensure delivery against Sainsbury's vision and Digital & Technology's objectives.

What I need to do

  • Be a true servant leader

  • Coach the Development Team in self-organization and cross-functionality

  • Support the day to day activities of an agile team

  • Keep the team honest with respect to Scrum

  • Facilitate Scrum events as requested or needed and provide feedback to the team

  • Work to remove blockers so that the team can operate efficiently

  • Teach and help the team apply different techniques for resolving impediments

  • Help the Scrum Team understand the need for clear and concise Product Backlog items

  • Understand product planning in an empirical environment

  • Guide the Product Owner to sustain the Product Backlog and maximise value

  • Contribute to the resolution of wider organisational impediments that impact the team

  • Teach the teams how to monitor progress within and across sprints using effective metrics

  • Work with Agile Coaches helping to drive cultural change and increase the effectiveness of the application of Scrum in the organisation

  • Understand and teach teams the value of visual management and big visual boards

  • Show your good skills and knowledge of servant leadership, facilitation, continuous improvement, empowerment, self-organisation and ways to increase transparency through improvements in delivery

  • Become well known for your extensive knowledge of numerous well documented patterns and techniques for completing the Scrum framework

    What I need to know

  • Have experience across Agile approaches and behaviours

  • Understand both flow- and iteration- based approaches and when they should be used

  • Have a first level Scrum Master certification (CSM, PSM I) and any other relevant agile qualifications and training

  • Have experience playing the Team Facilitator/Scrum Master role within an agile environment applying Scrum principles, practices, and theory

  • Have good skills and knowledge of servant leadership, facilitation, continuous improvement, empowerment, self-organisation and ways to increase transparency

  • Be knowledgeable of numerous well documented patterns and techniques for completing the Scrum framework

    What I need to show

  • Be a pro-active, self-motivated, confident person with good organisational and communication skills with strong attention to detail

  • Demonstrate your experience across Agile approaches and behaviours

  • Know when to use and how to implement both flow- and iteration- based approaches
