The school

Based in Birmingham East, this is a welcoming school with a headteacher keen to develop its staff and provide every opportunity for the success for their students. The school supports students on the Autistic Spectrum and with moderate learning difficulties. The school follows no particular educational style, guru or fad and prefer simply to appoint good people with a capacity for hard work and potential for development, giving them the freedom, encouragement and training to be the best teacher they can in their own style without interference from management.

The role

This is a KS1 teaching position supporting a class of eight students on the Autistic Spectrum. You will deliver the curriculum in your unique and creative way to bring out the best in the students. Your team will include two learning support assistants who have extensive experience in guiding students on a 1:1 basis in line with each student’s IEP. Students have moderate to severe difficulties and Makaton is used extensively to aid and develop communication. You will be expected to share your ideas, successes and failures with the rest of the school team as a contribution to the overall needs and developing success of the school.

The candidate

You are finishing your teacher training and will obtain Good to Outstanding in your observations. Demonstrating your creativity and ability to communicate with students based on their individual needs will be areas of particular success for you during your training and development this year. The school is looking for newly qualified teachers who can work autonomously and with confidence and can demonstrate a nurturing and caring attitude.
