Job Title: Head of SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environmental & Quality

Location: Coventry/Home Based - Travel required to all areas of the business including overnight stays as required

Hours of work: 40 hours per week Monday - Friday (Between 07:00-18:00 - 1 Hour Lunch)

Aims of Position:

To lead the SHEQ Department whilst maintaining and implementing the Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality policies and procedures within the company. Provide value-added support to the Heads of Departments and the Operational Leadership Team (OLT). Control, reduce and minimize risk within ByBox and positively influence its courier partners in achieving health and safety best practice and minimizing occupational road risk.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • A proactive, forward-thinking approach to SHEQ management, and the ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders at various levels
  • Providing coaching, advice and guidance to all staff on a wide range of SHEQ issues, promoting a positive SHEQ culture with forward-thinking ideas and open communication
  • Proactively looks for areas of improvement during audit processes and provides value adding and insightful recommendations
  • Maintain the various legal registers, ensuring compliance with legislation and continued accreditation to ISO9001, ISO50001, OHSAS18001 and ISO14001 standards
  • Present ByBox and Courier Health & Safety performance information on a tri-annual basis to senior management
  • Update the board with company Health, Safety, Environment & Quality performance via Confluence on a monthly basis
  • Conduct internal audits to ensure continued accreditation to business Health, Safety, Environmental & Quality ISO standards as well as company agreed standards
  • Communicate the findings of internal and external audits to site management in such a way to gain buy in with all interested parties and pro-actively move forward
  • Maintain a high level of customer (both internal & external) satisfaction across all disciplines whist ensuring that company policy and procedures are adhered to
  • Develop and maintain close working relationships with key stakeholders internally and externally providing regular SHEQ briefings and understanding operational challenges and risks that impact SHEQ risk management strategy
  • Ensure effective mechanisms and forums exist to update and involve employees (directly or through representatives) on changes and improvements to SHEQ policies and processes
  • Ensuring that personnel are regularly and properly informed by maintaining a co-ordinated system of SHEQ publicity, promotions and adequate level of training
  • Assist in defending the company against claims by working with head office and ByBox legal team
  • Liaising with management and the enforcement authorities on the notification and reporting of accidents and dangerous occurrences
  • Advise and support line managers in carrying out accident and near miss investigations in relation to Health, Safety & Environmental incidents / accidents
  • Advise and support line managers in carrying out Health, Safety and Environmental risk assessments
  • Ensure that appropriate health, safety and environmental advisory information are maintained and are available at all times on matters affecting the health and safety of all personnel at their place of work
  • Lead company agreed strategies in relation to accident reduction and prevention
  • Liaise with courier owners and managers as required to control and reduce preventable RTA's / RTC's
  • Ensure the company electronic management system is kept up to date
  • Ensure all accidents of level two and above are investigated in a timely manner with remedial actions adopted to prevent re-occurrences
  • Line manager to company SHEQ Business Partners including developmental and succession planning
  • Undertake other tasks as reasonably directed and in needs of the business

Skills and Abilities:

  • Challenge the way things are done and identify ways in which processes / ways of working can be improved and optimised
  • Be an ambassador and a role model for the SHEQ function
  • Good IT skills
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written
  • Manage time and priorities to meet deadlines
  • Work effectively as part of the Operational Leadership Team. (O.L.T)
  • Work with diligence and professionalism at all times
  • Flexibility in line with business requirements
  • Collaborative style and be interested in other people's motives and behaviors and be tolerant of different perspectives and opinions

Qualifications and experience:

Essential skills required

  • Experience in developing and implementing new working methods to improve the performance of a SHEQ department
  • Minimum of NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent
  • Chartered Member of IOSH
  • Good knowledge of the ISO9001, ISO 50001, ISO14001 and OHSAS18001 Standards
  • A full UK driving licence
  • Excellent leadership Skills
  • Excellent presenting skills

Desirable skills required

An Internal Quality Auditor qualification from a recognized body such as NQA

Character and personal qualities:

  • A proactive individual with good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Confident, flexible and professional at all times. Able to deal with all levels of staff throughout the business
  • Strategic, methodical, logical and detail orientated
  • Creative and a positive thinker
