A Primary School situated in Stoke on Trent, are looking for an SEN Teaching Assistant whose responsibility will be to support two key children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) on a 1:1 basis. This mainstream primary school is well supported by staff, parents and governors with strong links in the community. Both staff and pupils are proud to be a part of their successful establishment.
The role is split into morning and afternoon sessions. In the morning, you will be supporting a Yr3 pupil with ADHD. The child is very bright and needs someone who can help him develop academically. The child requires a fair but firm approach and positive behaviour management support. In the afternoon, you will be working with a pupil in Reception who has Autism and limited speech. The child does not require any personal care. The ideal TA will be nurturing and caring. Knowledge of PECS and/or Makaton will be an advantage.
Previous experience working as an SEN Teaching Assistant in a Primary School is essential. Additionally the ideal candidate will:
- Be patient and empathetic towards children
- Have a real interest in supporting pupils with SEN (ADHD and Autism)
- Be flexible
- Be able to use his/her initiative
- Be able to commit to a full-time, long-term role - Have an understanding of what it means to support children with special needs
