The Client

Our well-established client who are one of the market leaders specialising in delivering high profile bespoke joinery products including different types of joinery packages. Due to expansion our client is now looking for a Small Works Manager to co-ordinate each project from concept to completion.

The Role

Communication and Customer Service

You will be responsible for all aspects of customer service with a proactive approach ensuring customers' expectations are exceeded using a Service level Agreement.
Liaison with production to understand manufacturing lead times to construct a programme based on clients wishes and what the factory can realistically achieve.
You will gauge & manage client expectations, produce samples, identify potential quality issues, seek RFI and sequence work in line with the agreed programme.

Technical Aptitude - Surveying

A thorough understanding of site surveying; including access arrangements, fixing methodology, sequencing and quality.
Site measure all types of joinery items and communicate your needs
Ensure seamless and effective fitting of goods manufactured in the production facility.

Managing Multiple Projects - Scheduling/Planning/Efficiency

Schedule works on multiple jobs to ensure our customers requirement are met. This will include liaising with the production department re manufactured items.
You will be expected to build your own network of sub-contract labour - selection, training and appraisal.
Overall you will be fully responsible for the project, co-ordinating materials and sub-contract labour to satisfy clients expectations.
A measure of efficiency will be exit costs from the sub-contractor i.e. no additional unrecoverable costs

Logistics

You will be responsible for all the inputs in carrying out projects including effective site measures, timely requests for information, accurate drawings and work instructions, receipt of materials.
To ensure that quality is acceptable on manufactured items, components complete and fitting instructions and drawings are provided for site operatives.
All logistics would be under your remit including the effective delivery and unloading of all goods.

Managing Quality

An understanding of what constitutes acceptable quality will allow you to ensure that goods manufactured in the workshop and fitted on-site are always suitable for purpose i.e. meets customers' expectations. Our expectation is that all fitted products are signed off and are snag-free.

Managing Performance

To embrace a culture of excellence and ensure our sub-contractors are given the best opportunity to succeed in the project.
To provide data to assess the performance of manufacturing and sub-contract teams. Our expectation is that these departments are given continual feedback on their productivity/quality levels and are reflected in future business activity.

Managing HASAW

A thorough understanding of H&S requirements
Produce risk-assessments, method statements and tool-box talks.
Ensure necessary checks are taking place. Non-conformances are raised, assessed and closed out timely.
Responsible for all HASAW issues and site safety.

Commercial Awareness

You will need to demonstrate commercial awareness i.e. understand the wider environment in which an organisation operates: its customers, competitors and suppliers.
Awareness of the need for efficiency, cost-effectiveness, customer excellence and a knowledge of the market place in which the company operates. you will also need to be experienced in Change Management (of the project) i.e. managing variations (VRF forms) and ensuring we are reimbursed for extra work, out of sequence and delays

The Candidate

For this role any successful candidate will need to have a background in bespoke furniture/joinery. The role involves several different skills including manufacture, logistics, quality and installation so a technical understanding of the sector and a knowledge of the products are a necessity.

The client is looking for a pro-active candidate who is also prepared to do some travelling as you may be asked to visit some of the sites to oversee the installation.
