Innovation Manager – Automation & Robotics Engineering

Location: West Midlands + UK travel

Salary: £60,000 + 20% bonus + benefits (2 year Fixed-term Contract)

As part of the next stage of their growth cycle they are looking to make a key appointment into their management team, reporting to a main board Director they are seeking to appoint an Innovation Manager for their manufacturing plants.

The successful candidate will be a dynamic operator who can engage at all levels of the business, has credibility and a proven track record of success.

The role:

  • Proven leadership experience working in an automated production environment
  • Experience of successful end-to-end process optimization
  • Experience of working in an environment where continuous improvement is actively promoted
  • Successful team building for programme & project delivery
  • Knowledge of Manufacturing Execution Systems and their relevance to automation
  • To lead the dialogue relating to Plant Automation
  • To develop appropriate Automation or supporting Business Cases from base data or clearly documented assumptions
  • To agree the scope & specification of each project with key stakeholders
  • To manage conflicting priorities within and across Business Units
  • To engage with internal stakeholders, suppliers and customers to understand challenges and opportunities
  • To be the driving force behind an Automation vision that stakeholders can relate to and recognise the benefits offered
  • To prioritise layered project plans for local Calor GB and Global Automation solution roll outs
  • Ability to recognise the difference between business requirements and opportunities
  • To implement solutions alongside suitable tools and processed to evaluate their success
  • To define the Strategic Value Proposition of Plant Automation, providing clear direction to the team and ensuring relevance to stakeholders
  • To nurture the capabilities and diversity of knowledge within the team, making the case for recruitment where necessary to bring new skills and experience in to the business
  • To select and develop appropriate partners and methodologies to build the Automation Strategy
  • To instil confidence in the team and their own capability, managing change as the team grows
  • To guide business functions to modify or implement new equipment, standards and procedures in relation to Automation
  • To oversee the preparation of detailed technical specifications and procedures to support the safe handover from Innovation to BAU Operations
  • To work with stakeholders to ensure local readiness (knowledge, skills) to accept solutions

The person:

  • Degree educated, preferably in an Engineering or science (STEM) based subject, or equivalent
  • Proven experience in introducing an Automation delivery project into a manufacturing business
  • Well-developed communication skills, both written & verbal
  • IT literate
  • Project management experience
  • Proven ability to successfully establish & manage a team to deliver objectives
  • Ability to work with a variety of stakeholders
  • Organised & self-motivated to deliver results
