Senior Embedded Systems Engineer Role:

You will be working as part of the Embedded Systems Team, which has overall responsibility for Electronic Hardware, software and testing strategy for the business.

Hardware: responsibility for a sub-section of electronic hardware. You will be responsible for staying on top of latest developments, supplier activities and selection to ensure the hardware meets our needs. You must be able to specify modules and components that meet the needs of the business and work with purchase to realise these. You will maintain an approved component database for key commodities.

Software: The company is moving towards a model based software delivery process, but hand coding will still exist. They need to develop processes to ensure their software is robust and that their suppliers must follow. The interface between hardware and software must be defined to allow re-use to software across hardware platforms. You will be heavily involved in developing our strategy and approaches, producing standards that will be followed.

Test and Validation: Hardware in the Loop and software in the loop validation is need to ensure our complex system work correctly, you will be involved in developing these approaches, selecting the correct tools and coaching others.

It is understood that you may not have the full range of skills to cover all the three areas above, but the whole embedded team will cover all these areas. Hence, it is possible that the weaker skills will be augmented by other members of the team, but you must still have a general understanding of all the areas.

Senior Embedded Systems Engineer Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Principal Engineer Embedded Systems, you will be responsible for (a subset of the items below):

Liaising with suppliers to stay on top of the latest available hardware and costs.
Reviewing supplier proposals/quotes to ensure the company is getting the robust, capable, appropriate and cost effective hardware to meeting their needs.
Developing standard requirements for hardware to ensure that all hardware will survive in the company environment.
Working with business units to develop specifications, perform gap analysis and help review supplier proposals.
Generating and maintaining a parts catalogue to help select the correct hardware and drive re-use.

Liaising with business units, suppliers and IT to ensure software meets the required standards (Safety, security, interfaces etc.).
Developing standards and approaches for the software delivery process utilising appropriate tools to ensure they have the correct software delivery process, covering the whole software lifecycle. Evaluating and selecting toolsets.
Driving an improved software test and validation process, covering supplier testing through to on-machine testing to ensure good coverage and compliance with appropriate coding standards (such as MISRA).
Driving the company's model based approach to software.
Developing strategy for an appropriate architecture covering hardware, middleware, firmware, high-level control, low-level control and interfaces.

Automated Test and Validation:
Developing strategy for automated testing, including MIL, SIL and HIL.
Running pilots.
Assessing tools/hardware with the aim of standardisation.
Developing and releasing standards.
Ensuring traceability throughout the V+V process and automated reporting.
Linking the strategy with Model based engineering.
Assisting business units in building and configuring test rigs.
Building a library of plant models.

Warranty and Issue Investigation:
Assisting and leading investigations into current issues in both hardware and software.

Working with the wider E+E team (UK, India, USA etc.) to coach and promote best practice.
Supporting the NPIP process and the E+E compliance team to ensure they deliver quality products.

Senior Embedded Systems Engineer Requirements:
