Your new company

One of the largest Local Authorities in Europe, Birmingham City Council is seeking a number of temporary Planning Officers to assist in the provision of efficient and effective Planning Management Service.

It is an exciting time to work in Birmingham, with the hosting of the Commonwealth Games in 2022 as well as new and unique residential and commercial developments being built in the City.

You will be responsible for supporting the City Council's overall strategic themes to provide a better environment for the residents of Birmingham.

Your new role

You will be responsible for ensuring that Planning Applications are dealt within a professional and timely manner in line with agreed polices and procedures. You will be undertaking site visits and ensuring that appropriate internal and external consultation is undertaken.

What you'll need to succeed

In these roles it is essential you are able to handle a case load of planning applications and can provide evidence of your experience carrying out these duties.

You will also need to have experience handling appeals and have very strong report writing skills. Its ideal to have a degree in Planning or related discipline but not essential if you have proven experience in a similar town planning role. You are encouraged to apply even if you are not a member of the RTPI although this membership is desirable

What you'll get in return

As part of Birmingham City Councils Big City Plan, by 2022, they will have hoped to have created an additional 50,000 jobs in the city and contributing over £2 billion to the economy each year. You will be helping to contribute to providing 65,000 square meters of new and improved public spaces and over 5,000 new homes and leisure facilities whilst valuing the city's heritage and cultural assets. This will all culminate in the 2022 Commonwealth Games bringing Birmingham once again to the world stage.
