The aim of this post is to care for a group of Project Workers (with Learning Disabilities) whilst maintaining a workshop and assisting the Woodworking Team Leader secure additional income for the charity. You will provide a stimulating, friendly, safe, and nurturing environment for our Project Workers, using their skills to assist you in maintaining the Farm and providing products to be sold to the local community. This post could be ideal for a woodworker or carpenter who wants to use their skillset whilst developing others. Or it may suit a person nearing retirement, or a person in the early stage of their career who wants to apply their skills within a caring environment. Newlands Bishop Farm develops our Project Workers, giving them life skills within a wider educational remit. It is important the post holder places the Project Worker at the heart of all that they do, and can demonstrate they genuinely possess a passion for improving the lives with those who have learning disabilities.


Carry out maintenance and woodworking tasks as directed by the Woodworking Team Leader and / or Senior Learning Disabilities Manager,assisted by a group of Project Workers.

Provide a stimulating, friendly, safe and nurturing environment for our Project Workers.

Supervise Project Workers in the safe use of woodworking equipment, or any other applicable machinery including the use of personal protective equipment at all times.

Keep the workshop in an orderly and safe condition.

Fill in the appropriate paperwork for risk assessments, accidents and any other administrative task requested by the Senior Learning Disabilities Manager.

Attend team meetings in the morning to discuss individual Project Worker needs.

Other duties requested by the Senior Learning DisabilitiesManager.

Qualifications & Experience

Prior woodworking or carpentry experience is a necessity, and picture evidence of work carried out will be encouraged to prompt discussion at the interview stage. Previous care experience is not a necessity, but you will be required to recall examples where you have helped vulnerable people in the past. A full driving licence is a mandatory requirement.

DBS Checks

Appointment to this post is dependent upon a DBS check being carried out. This is a legal requirement since the charity works with adults with learning disabilities. Refusal to give consent to carry out this check means you cannot be considered for this or any other position in the organisation.

Interviews to be held: August 2018 to September 2018.
