Apollo Home Healthcare is currently recruiting an experienced care assistant to support a lovely gentleman who has a spinal injury and recently suffered a stroke, which has left him with limited mobility and the requirement for support around his home and in the community.
Our client’s stroke has affected his communication and movement down one side of his body. He has a supra pubic catheter in situ and requires hoisting for all movements. He is paralysed from the chest down but can use a wheelchair independently and drives his own adapted car.
We provide a package of care that covers one 24 hour shift per week. The shift will be on a weekday, starting from 8am - 10pm, followed by a sleep in until 8am the following morning.
Our client lives at home with his wife and child so you will play a critical role in supporting him and his family. You must have a patient temperament as he struggles with his speech and can become frustrated. Ideally you will be able to commit in the long term to provide continuity of care.
You will be providing support with personal care and moving and handling, catheter care and conducting bladder washouts twice a week. The client is an insulin dependent diabetic, so you will be monitoring blood sugars frequently.
