Forest Seed Coordinator (Procurement & Treatment)

Salary: Dependent on experience Start date: Ideally January/February 2019

Maelor Forest Nurseries Limited is an independent company and one of the leading forest tree nurseries in Europe.We are also a registered Seed Testing Station.We operate on a 175-hectare site located just inside Wales on the Welsh/ Shropshire border.

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, self-motivated and practical individual. A key quality of the role is to be a “people person” and enjoy dealing with individuals at all levels of the industry.

Full training will be provided.We also encourage and support the personal development of our staff,which could include formal and/or vocational qualifications.

Main duties and responsibilities will include;

• Organising seed collections and seed purchases • Identifying quality stands of trees suitable for seed registration • Liaising with customers, seed collectors, seed suppliers and industry groups • Involvement in seed testing and seed processing • Assisting with seed sowing operations on the nursery • Maintenance of our seed orchards • Assisting in tree pollinations and pollen extraction • Involvement with grafting of root stocks Key skills and abilities include; • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well in a team • Strong planning skills and the capability to deliver planned work programmes in a timely manner • A flexible hands-on approach,with an aptitude for multi-tasking and prioritising tasks appropriately • A close attention to detail and meticulous record keeping • Good IT skills, including competence in Microsoft Office • A current UK driving licence or a foreign driving license that permits driving in the UK

The successful applicant will have a recognised qualification in a related subject such as forestry, horticulture, environmental science or the life sciences. Relevant practical experience will also be viewed favourably.
