Our Information Technology (IT) based Network Engineer Apprenticeship will provide the opportunity to gain practical work experience in all areas of the business and will contribute towards a Level 4 Network Engineer Standard Apprenticeship. This will set you up to attain a Degree in your chosen profession.


The role will involve providing support to the various Engineering departments within the Malvern site. Applicants will have achieved good grades at GCSE in Maths, English and the Sciences. Applicants will also be able to demonstrate an interest in computing through hobbies or a school project.

Suitable applicants will need a good technical knowledge and be able to demonstrate a competent knowledge of computer / IT skills. This role requires a self-motivated individual with good communication and customer skills with the ability to work in a team environment whilst achieving outstanding customer satisfaction.

Technical Knowledge and Understanding

* Understands and applies the principles of networking, protocols and associated technologies (specifically, this should include the latest published versions of OSI layer model, IP, TCP/ IP, routing and switching, WANs, LANs)

* Understands and applies the applied maths required to be a network engineer (e.g. algorithms, data, binary, probability and statistics)

* Understands the causes and consequences of system failure including load balance and storage protocols and responds appropriately

* Understands the architecture of a typical business IT system, including hardware, OS, server virtualisation, middleware and applications

* Understands and responds to security threats, firewalls and vulnerabilities

Working week

Monday - Friday: 8.30am - 5pm

Total hours per week: 37.50

Training to be provided

The successful candidate will undertake a two year nationally recognised qualification through TDM

This is a work-based learning programme which will require commitment to block weeks in a training room once every quarter working towards the qualification along with weekly off the job training and monthly coaching sessions

You will be required to demonstrate through the standard that you meet all competencies and behaviours which will lead to the achievement of the qualification

These block weeks will take place at either of our training centres, in Birmingham or Worcester, whichever is more suitable for your location

You will have a designated mentor in the workplace to support your learning and at the end of programme will be assessed via an external assessment body

This is a Level 4 qualification
