The Company

With a history that goes back in excess of 80 years, my client has operations across the globe and employs in excess of 14,000 people.

Looking at the bigger picture, they sell, rent and service equipment used within mining, marine, oil & gas, construction, petroleum for a wide range of power systems applications.

Due to an excellent and sustainable order book, they are now looking for a Lead Electrical Power Engineer to join their established team and to manage an existing and growing Project Engineering team, to ensure the continued delivery of their business promises.

The Role

This Lead Electrical Power Engineer position is key to the continued success of the business and will ensure the company remains the go to company for EPG and Oil & Gas projects.

Key activities of the role include:

• Managing an established Project Engineering team on electric power projects, ranging from £100k to £18million
• Optimising the team’s contribution to multiple projects and ensuring that they have the tools and technical competencies to complete projects on time, to costs and quality
• Managing project risks and mitigating any issues that would impact the delivery of the project in line with customer expectations
• Working closely with teams within design, sales, installation and commissioning, as well as a number of client stakeholders
• Monitoring multiple projects and dealing with issues before they become problems
• Advancing the existing team and identifying training and development needs
• Allocating resources in line with the size and scope of projects, ensuring the right skills-mix and technical abilities are in place
• Working closely with other divisions of the business to ensure milestones are achieved in line with project plans
• Developing excellent working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
• Providing a service that is second to none and where the client’s expectations are not only met but exceeded

This position is just as much about an individual’s technical and engineering knowledge as it is about personality and ability to be customer focused, to think outside the box, work with a wide range of engineers and customers, being results orientated and being able to manage a diverse range of personalities.

The Person
This is a senior role within a fantastic business and as such requires previous experience within a similar lead role, ideally within large M&E engineering projects.

A selection of other requirements include:

• Degree qualified within a mechanical or electrical discipline (those that carry an HNC/HND and significant experience will also be considered)
• Ideally a Chartered Engineer or working towards this (my client is happy to help you attain this)
• Experience of executing complex projects within a structured commercial environment
• Experience of the energy, oil & gas, marine or industrial market would be ideal (experience of Gas and CHP engine configuration would be extremely useful)
• Experience of developing and implementing project engineering processes
• An ability to read, interpret and understand electrical / mechanical engineering drawings and schedules
• Solid interpersonal skills and the ability to liaise with a range of stakeholders; face to face, on the phone and via the written word
• Project planning and reporting in line with each project
• Extremely developed H&S knowledge and knowledge of safety legislation and policies
• Full UK driving licence
