Severn Trent Water produce Renewable Energy from Bio-Gas generated by the anaerobic digestion of sewage sludge, food waste and energy crops.

An exciting opportunity has arisen within our Bio Resources operations team to recruit an additional CHP Technician dedicated to the maintenance, operation & optimisation of our fleet of CHPs (Combined Heat & Power units) and other Renewable activities.

About the role:

The CHP Technician has an integral part to play in this production environment and is to specialise in the maintenance, operation, servicing & optimisation of our fleet of CHP gas engine driven generators (Jenbacher, MAN, Perkins) and Gas to Grid installations across the company.

The role will develop to include different disciplines and skills covering our current Renewable assets across the company and any proposed expansion opportunities that will enable the Severn Trent to reach its ambitious Bio Resources Renewable Energy Objectives.

Tasks will involve preventative and reactive maintenance activities, monitoring & optimising plant operations to maximise energy output and deliver the company’s challenging renewable energy targets whilst minimising the cost to our customers and impact on the wider environment. A flexible attitude to working hours is therefore required.

The ability to work with minimal supervision or as part of a team while ensuring full compliance to the company’s health and safety procedures, including the supervision of contractors, is required.
The role offers opportunities for training & continuous development to become fully multi-skilled (electrical/mechanical) along with the opportunity to gain HV and LV SAP (Senior Authorised Person) status and Gas Safe qualifications.

In this role you will start from home and work in Severn Trents South and Central regions.

About you:

The CHP Technician will need to be mechanically qualified (NQV 3 or equivalent) with experience in the maintenance of large gas powered engines (CHP-Combined Heat & Power), generation plant and ideally with SCADA control systems, 24v-400v along with a strong knowledge of Health and Safety principles. A good understanding of gas powered installations and electrical fault finding is essential.

You must demonstrate strong communication, team working and IT skills and have the ability to work with minimal supervision and a full driving licence will be required as will require travel within the Severn Trent Water region.

How you will be rewarded:

·Base Salary of up to £30,000 with an opportunity to earn up to £50k PA

By 2020 over 50% of the energy consumed by Severn Trent Water will be provided by a variety of Renewable Energy Generating technologies including sewage AD, Crop AD, Hydro, large Wind turbines, Bio-methane and Food Waste AD. This operation has doubled in size over the last 5 years and further growth is planned. The Bio Resources CHP Generation team are responsible for delivering this ambitious and exciting growth plan.
