Our client is a global specialist and leading Business to Business and Retail Distributor of all IT security products.

This is a new position that will initially rationalise their existing data and bring it to a much improved level of integrity and accuracy, and then design and implement Governance policy across the organisation. It is an opportunity to be in at the ground level and to help form the policy moving forward, as well as provide the tools and platforms necessary for its implementation, management and control.

Duties and responsibilities

• Design Reports to make explicit the weaknesses in their data sets.
• Liaising with the business for input, but working within the guidelines provided by the Head of Data Governance, to provide maintenance of their internal item category structure, deciding new category names, reducing the number of category duplications and look to improve the category structure
• Work with the Head of Data Governance in the creation of an overarching Master Taxonomy and the translation processes between it and the existing taxonomies in place.
• Understand own and maintain their web category structure (Classes and Characteristics
• Devise extrapolatory means of identifying Intrastat/Commodity Code and ECCN Export control assignment to items using Aggregator and Vendor supported data and common taxonomy classifications and liaise with Finance and HMRC to deliver a checking process.
• Work with the Master Data team to implement smoothly any product migrations from any of our intra-company integrations.
• Support the Head of Data Governance with the Development and use of data aggregators and vendor feeds.
• Monitor and improve their item data quality to external customers and implement channels to drive the automation of customer data delivery, based on translations from a normalised taxonomy Identify commonalties and build these into their MDM solution.
• Liaise with their EDI and reporting teams where required to support their activities from a data perspective.

Skills and experience

• An established Data Analyst with 3-5 years experience. Able to work with large datasets and demonstrate advanced skills in Excel.
• Preferably with experience of the principles of an ERP and PIM.
• Experienced enough to understand the impact of any changes they make to the data and take responsibility and ownership of those decisions. Data Governance is all about consideration of downstream impact and requires a "Systems thinking" perspective.
• Able to work with other departments to improve data quality. E.g liaise with Business Units to improve categorisation etc.

• Is creative and can look to improve the datasets.
• SQL Experience
• Experience of Oracle or SAP would be useful but not essential.
• Experience of Qlikview would be useful but not essential
• Mathematics A Level preferable, typically a computing degree.
