Counsellor/Trainee Counsellor - VOLUNTEER (Fixed term - up to one year)
Our client operates a well-established free counselling service Monday - Friday during term time for learners at both our town centre Main Campus and the Stephen Burke Construction Academy in Swadlincote.
We currently have volunteer placement vacancies and are looking for volunteer qualified (accredited) Counsellors and counselling students to meet the growing demand of counselling support for our learners.
Trainee Counsellor requirements are:
  • To be in year 2 of a recognised counselling training, or to have completed a recognised counselling course to at least Diploma level, and in need of further counselling hours for BACP/UKCP accreditation
What will the role of a counsellor involve?
  • To counsel learners a minimum of four (4) hours per week term time only
  • To be reliable in both attendance and punctuality.
  • To behave in an ethical and professional manner in all dealings with learners, with the Counselling Coordinator/Wellbeing Coordinator, and with Burton and South Derbyshire College as the counselling placement organisation.
  • To adhere to the Ethical Framework of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.
  • To ensure that all your counselling is subject to counselling supervision at the required ratio
  • To seek membership of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy or other appropriate professional organisation.
  • To respond constructively to guidance.

What will we expect from you?
  • Commit to volunteering with us for at least one (1) academic year
  • Perform your volunteering role to the best of your ability.
  • Maintain the confidential information of the College and of its learners.
  • Read and comply with Burton and South Derbyshire Colleges policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Attend any training relevant to your duties and maintain a good level of attainment in your professional studies.
  • Act in a professional way whenever you represent Burton and South Derbyshire College.
  • Raise any concerns at the earliest opportunity.
  • Give us as much notice as possible should you be unable to attend or carry out your volunteer role with us anymore.
This role is unpaid.
