The Role

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, flexible and motivated Education Welfare & Attendance Officer.

Working alongside the Headteacher this position will take a lead role in increasing the attendance and engagement of students whose attendance is a cause for concern for the school. This will be achieved by identifying barriers to engagement, attendance, safeguarding and pastoral issues to increase engagement of students whose attendance is a cause for concern. This role will work closely with students, staff, parents and external partners to ensure the best possible attendance of all the students.

The role of Education Welfare and Attendance Officer is to work to improve school attendance, punctuality and behaviour through effective working with pupils, families and outside agencies.

The successful candidate will also take responsibility for all safeguarding and child protection matters arising at the schools and support other staff in dealing with any safeguarding issues that arise.

This will specifically involve:
  • Working with the Designated Safeguarding Lead, Safeguarding Officer and Senior Welfare Coordinator to ensure a multi-disciplinary approach to increasing engagement and attendance of high profile students.
  • Having a strategic oversight of the Attendance Engagement Improvement Strategy
  • Completing EHA's for identified students
  • Maintaining the Attendance Intervention spreadsheet - data, interventions, impact
  • Working with identified students and parents to increase engagement in overcoming barriers to learning

The School

The School are working exclusively with Empowering Learning for this role.

The school is a short stay school for pupils who have been excluded from mainstream education. They support pupils in all key stages, with the aim of ensuring they return to appropriate provision at the earliest opportunity.

As a Pupil Referral Unit, admission to the School is managed through the Local Authority

At the school the Head has turned things around over the past 18 months for the better. The children are offer a broad range of curriculum opportunities. They aim to inspire and provide each pupil with the opportunity to succeed.

What we're looking for

Ideally with a background in school pastoral and safeguarding roles and with experience of attendance management, suitable candidates for this role must have experience of working effectively with both young people of a relevant age and their parents/carers, involving drawing up individual action plans, monitoring their implementation and making adjustments relating to pupil progress or changes in circumstances.

We are seeking candidates with excellent communication skills who are able to form and maintain positive working relationships with a wide range of young people and their families, well developed listening skills, and exceptional organisational skills to meet potentially conflicting deadlines and work without close supervision. Working in a team collaboratively to share ideas and achieve objectives is also a must for this role.
