Finance Manager

Salary: £29,013 to £31,733 (£32,000 to £35,000 FTE) DOE

Hours: 34 hours per week permanent

Location: Bromsgrove, B60

Our client is an independent charity supporting patients and families living with a life-limiting illness, across North East Worcestershire. They are a Day Hospice and Family Support Service.

The Finance Manager is a key member of the Senior Management Team and plays a central role in ensuring the smooth running of the Hospice. Working closely with the CEO and Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Finance Manager is responsible for the management of the Hospice's finance systems and processes and the day to day running of the department.

Aim of the Finance Manager:
  • To deliver high quality financial and business management support to the Hospice
  • To manage and deliver Accounting, Payroll, VAT and Pensions functions
  • To prepare and analyse accurate timely financial management information
  • To represent the Hospice on the joint lottery board, acting as Treasurer / Director of the joint lottery company
  • To supporting the future development of the organisation and uphold the Hospice's values
  • Line manage and support direct reports (two part-time) and volunteers

Duties Include:
  • Lead on all day to day financial processes for the Hospice developing smarter ways of working where appropriate
  • Prepare monthly accurate and appropriate management accounts and cash flow forecasts for the hospice
  • Prepare annual budgets, financial forecasts and support the annual external audit process
  • Maintain financial procedures and policies, ensuring all aspects comply with legal requirements, financial processes and controls
  • Process salaries and pensions on a monthly basis ensuring compliance and regulation are met
  • Be the lead point of contact with HMRC taking responsibility for compliance with all taxation issues
  • Complete statutory returns, Gift Aid Claims and deal with any issues that may arise
  • Ensure that the Hospice is compliant with statutory and regulatory requirements particularly in relation to record keeping and confidentiality
  • Monitor bank balances and make investment recommendations to the CEO and Board
  • Work with senior managers to support the development of delegated budgets
  • Work with senior managers to provide accurate financial information and costings for developmental and capital projects
  • Ensure all necessary financial and charity returns are completed
  • Ensure compliance with changing charity and company legislation
  • Ensure internal financial controls are developed and adhered to (e.g. CC8 guidance)
  • Work closely with the Fundraising Team to ensure effective and efficient procedures are in place for managing hospice income
  • Provide timely information for grant and trust applications
  • Maintain IT, telephone and photocopier contracts provided through external contractors
  • Manage and maintain the charity's insurance cover
  • Liaise with utility companies, suppliers etc to ensure best value
  • Support the CEO and Care Team in negotiating contracts ensuring the provision of information as appropriate
  • Contribute to negotiations as appropriate with the Clinical Commissioning Group concerning Contracts and Service Level Agreements
  • Undertake and comply with mandatory staff training

The Ideal Candidate:
  • Recognised professional financial/accountancy qualification
  • Significant experience within finance including budget setting
  • Broad knowledge of financial and business management
  • Knowledge of charitable sector financial management
  • Payroll and pensions knowledge
  • Extensive experience of utilising financial management software e.g. Sage
  • Experience of all aspects of payroll
  • Knowledge and understanding of legal and tax issues relating to companies and charities
  • Ability to analyse, interrogate and interpret numerical data to contribute to strategic direction
  • Able to lead a small team of staff and volunteers
  • Willingness to occasionally work outside office hours and weekends
