Description

As a Head of Risk at HS2 you will Lead the identification, management and ownership of risk across Phase 2b to actively manage risk and reduce the risk exposure and ensure the successful delivery of HS2's objectives.

About the role:

  • Lead the Phase Two risk team, setting objectives, reviewing performance and ensuring that employees have the necessary skills and understanding to deliver the team's objectives. Support and mentor where required.
  • Formulate the Risk strategy for Phase Two and oversee its implementation.
  • Responsible for the sign off for cost and time allowances, deriving Risk contingencies in the region of GBP2.1 - 2.4 billion.
  • Influence and collaborate with senior stakeholders in the supply chain and 3rd parties to ensure that HS2's objectives are not detrimentally affected by Risk. In the event of any barriers, escalating and navigating through to a positive resolution.
  • Where necessary to promote the joint evaluation of risks with contractors and suppliers to establish a basis for risk sharing and identification.
  • Lead risk management activities within Phase Two, to influence a large number of stakeholders throughout the organisation, including PMO, MD and the DfT. Provide them with management information and provide recommendations to influence a successful outcome.
  • Agree and communicate risk and/or compliance standards and monitor and oversee their implementation for all objectives.
  • Lead the implementation and roll out of the Enterprise Risk Management Framework for Phase Two. Ensure that training, system compliance and development is well communicated across the organisation.
  • Own and manage all relevant risk management data held in the Enterprise Risk Management System for Phase Two and ensure that this is maintained with input from relevant internal and external stakeholders
  • Undertake Enterprise risk management system compliance/assurance checks sharing lessons and best practice across Phase Two and with the RM community.


Qualifications About You:

  • Risk management skills and risk management approaches, with a sound commercial understanding of construction projects,
  • Leadership & team development skills to build effective teams, including role modelling, promoting continuous improvement, creating a clear sense of direction and priorities and creating ownership and accountability.
  • Experience applying risk management concepts and procedures to large scale projects, and providing specialist impartial advice to internal stakeholders
  • Able to convey complex Risk concepts into easily understood narratives for a variety of audiences
  • The post-holder is expected to behave at all times in a manner consistent with the HS2 values of Safety, Leadership, Integrity and Respect.
