Our client is seeking a Planning Officer on an initial 2 Month contract with the possibility of an extension.

Working Hours: Monday - Friday, 37 Hours

Pay Rate: GBP14.92 P/H PAYE

Job Purpose:

Carry out monitoring functions for the Planning Service and produce reports analysing the results. Undertake research in connection with planning policy and produce reports analysing the results. Prepare local development plan policy, planning briefs and other supplementary planning documents. Provide good quality and up to date advice on planning policy issues. Liaise and co-operate effectively with other officers on corporate issues. To carry out other planning work given by the Unit Manager and to meet deadlines set by them.

Duties and Responsibilities:

* Monitor all aspects of housing land availability for local and national purposes and produce reports on a regular basis.

* Carry out research and analysis of planning related documents and reports and provide relevant information to customers.

* Prepare reports and draft policies etc. in an effective and efficient manner.

* Liaise effectively with planning control staff, other officers of the Council and other bodies and organisation as necessary in the assessment of development proposals from a policy point of view.

* Keep up-to-date in terms of national, regional and local strategic planning policy and guidance.

* Provide policy advice and information to developers and the general public in an efficient and effective manner.

* Keep records of own work activities in a systematic manner in order to set targets and monitor achievements.

* Carry out site visits and attend meetings associated with planning policy and future development issues.

* To provide comprehensive planning policy advice to Development Control officers, officers in other departments and council members.

Skills and Experience:

* Possess knowledge of town planning procedures.

* Degree level qualification in planning or a related subject.

* Advisory skills - to be able to provide clear advice to assist with enquiries and to maintain an efficient and effective planning service.

* Effective communication skills - to be able to communicate clearly and effectively with members of the public, councillors and other third parties by letter, telephone, e-mail and face to face.

* Be able to demonstrate a good standard of literacy and report writing skills.

* Analytical skills, to research and analyse complex information and to draw out clear conclusions and outputs.

* Ability to prioritise and organise work to meet required deadlines.

* Member of Royal Town Planning Institute or possess exemption from the Institute's final examinations.

* Previous experience of planning policy preparation and/or planning research or policy work
