Technician - Health, Education and Life Sciences

Birmingham City University is a leading modern university, in one of the UK's largest thriving cities. The Faculty of Health, Education and Life Sciences has an outstanding reputation for the training of Health and Education professionals, assisted by first rate facilities and placement opportunities. Our new facilities are located in a beautiful, leafy campus in the Edgbaston area of Birmingham, next door to the Botanical Gardens and with excellent transport connections.

Due to the popularity of our new Life Sciences courses, we are looking to recruit a skilled laboratory technician to help deliver technical support within the Faculty.

You should have experience as a technician with expertise in microbiology, medical microbiology or a similar support role in higher education or industry, and be able to quickly and efficiently carry out aseptic work, prepare solutions and reagents, and maintain laboratory equipment, working strictly to local procedures.

With broad knowledge of a range Life Sciences techniques you will provide technical support for practical teaching and outreach activities across the Faculty as part of a friendly and multi-skilled technical team. Any experience of biochemistry, food sciences, molecular biology and cell culture would be advantageous. The role requires a strong understanding of laboratory health & safety in practice, excellent communication skills and a positive attitude. This is a fixed term post for 2 years.
